What a day!

What a day it has been! I don't usually get excited about current affairs or politics. Yes, I like to rant about issues occasionally, but most of the time, I'm not very passionate about it. However, Obama winning the Presidential Election - I didn't expect to feel so deeply moved.

The thing is, I expected him to win. I was tired of the excessive amount of media coverage the Presidential Election race got here in Germany, seeing as we don't actually get to vote in said election, and if we did, it would have been a clear win for Obama from the start anyway. So, I expected him to win, and yet somehow, apparently I didn't. Today, watching the news and listening to the speeches made me not only realize but actually feel what a historical day this was. To see so many people finally wanting a change - and I believe it's going to be a fundamental one - was almost magical.

Now, I don't believe Obama can do miracles, and he has a lot of grave problems to face which are by no means easy to solve. Maybe, he won't manage to solve all of them. Yet, he is the first politician in a long time who I believe will try as hard as he can to make the best of things. Which is really all you can ask or wish for.

Now if only California and Arizona hadn't voted in favor of the same-sex marriage ban... But I am less pessimistic than I usually am (hey, I am German!) that we will get there soon.
