Going to see "The Book of Mormon"

We have opening night tickets tonight, and were lucky to snag those. By the time general ticket sales opened up for the Orlando run, there were almost none left. And we only got the tickets we did because we paid with American Express for play tickets before, and there's a deal in place that AE customers get a few days advance notice of open ticket sales. The one night that had the most tickets available, at the time, was Halloween, and we didn't want to be out of the house on Halloween.

So I'm excited, even though our seats aren't as good as they were when we went to see Wicked.

Update on the fall tv season. I have dropped Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from my "must see" list due to sheer boredom. Even though the last couple of episodes I tried to watch on-demand were a little better in the story-telling department, in general I simply can't get into the stock characters; and the plots are at best average, when they're not just dull.

The other superhero show I had been looking forward to before I tuned in was The Tomorrow People on the CW. It should have been a slam-dunk being paired with Arrow, which is not suffering any sophomore slump at all, IMO. But, again, the biggest problem with The Tomorrow People is that it's boring and I can't get into the characters. I really wanted to like this one for Mark Pellegrino, if nothing else.

It's the same reason I wanted to like The Blacklist more than I do, and that was because of James Spader. I skipped the last couple of weeks, but I decided to sit through last night's episode from start to finish; and at the end of the hour, not only did I still not care about Lizzie or any of the other characters, I realized even Spader's "Red" shtick is already wearing thin on me.

I watched the premiere of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland a few weeks ago, and all it did was confirm for me that my love of all things Once Upon a Time is done. Plus, I couldn't get past the bad botox job on the Red Queen's lips.

On the upside, I kept dvr'ing Brooklyn Nine-Nine and watching it when I got a chance, and it finally clicked with me and now I enjoy it a lot. I'm glad it got a full season pick-up, but it may not survive after that. So I'll be happy with what we get.

The Originals has steadily improved since the two-part backdoor pilot, and it's keeping my interest, so it's a keeper so far.

I did watch the premiere of NBC's 10-part Dracula following the return of Grimm, and I actually liked it. For one thing, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is certainly a far more convincing Dracula that he ever was a Henry VIII. Plus, I kind of like the whole secret society trope, and the fact that Dracula is pushing for green energy a century before its time (obviously he never succeeds in his quest). ;) And it just looks cool. The only thing I don't understand is why Dracula has to pretend to be an American. And the name he's using, Alexander Grayson, makes me feel like NBC and ABC should be doing a crossover with Revenge and Dracula. *snerk* It amused me enough that I'll stick with it.

The next new series I want to try is Almost Human, which FOX bumped from Nov 4 to Nov 17/18, for whatever reason. Of course, Karl Urban is the real draw for me, but it could be a fun futuristic cop buddy vehicle. We'll see. If it clicks with me, that would make my Monday night tv routine for a while - Sleepy Hollow, which I still love, and Almost Human.

I've dropped one of my staples of the last few years, and that's White Collar. I realized that the premiere not only bored the hell out of me, but it annoyed me too because of the showrunners' insistence on replaying the same old unnecessary secrets and lies and manufactured angst between Peter and Neal every single season. This is a very paint-by-numbers series. I dvr'd last week's episode, but haven't been in the mood to watch it, which tells me the love really is gone. So I'll probably just delete it unwatched and call it over and done with.

At the end of last week we finally got a bit of cool weather - what passes for cool weather in Florida - and I loved it. Of course, the temps have been moving up steadily all week, and Halloween will be a warm one, which is a bummer. But at least the humidity has stayed down, so the nights and mornings are still coolish.

So with the better weather I power-walked after dinner on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which I'm more inspired to do when it's not still 90+ degrees with a gazillion% humidity at 7, 8, or 9 pm. It's hard to fit in a good walk during the week, but I'm trying to make it a regular routine at least three days a week - more if I can work it out. We get another cool snap this weekend, so that'll keep me in the mood. ;)

It also helps that I've gotten into podcasts, since just listening to music was not keeping me entertained enough. I'm a little behind the times in getting into podcasting, but now I've subscribed to some cool ones that I'm enjoying so far. I started off with Geek's Guide to the Galaxy and The Nerdist, but I was getting a bit bored with interview shows too, though I'm still subscribed.

A few people on my flist were talking about Welcome to Night Vale, and now I'm into it too. It's very funny and entertaining. I also started listening to Stuff You Should Know and Stuff You Missed in History Class. And I've subscribed to Pseudopod, Skeptoid and Escape Pod, but I haven't uploaded any of those episodes to my iPod yet. So, lots to listen to when I get around to it.
