Technology hates me

First it was my old back-up Razor cell phone that I bought a new battery for about six months ago when my barely 1-1/2 year-old flip phone fell apart (because they make them like shit to force you to pay for new ones before time!). At some point last week the battery stopped holding a charge and got hot for no reason that I could ascertain. So I figured, okay, I shall be sans cell phone until we change up our plan in a couple weeks because I'm NOT buying another battery (which aren't cheap) for that short a time, especially when they don't last more than six months. Then suddenly the battery started holding a charge again, wasn't hot anymore, and now it's like brand new.

I can't explain it, I don't question it, I just figure the Cell Phone Fairy showed up in the middle of the night and fixed it for me because she knew worse was on its way.

Then a couple days ago the Firefox browser that we downloaded to my desk-top PC when the IE stopped working, again for no reason we could figure out, also just stopped working. Just like with the IE, one minute the browser was working fine, the next not at all. So that was it, couldn't put it off anymore, and The Spousal Unit dumped all my data to an external hard-drive and wiped the sucker clean. Then he tried to reinstall the XP from scratch yesterday, but it wouldn't read the drivers and nothing was working, and he figured the old back-up XP disk was corrupted. Tried downloading the drivers from his PC onto a separate disk, but my system still wouldn't read them. So he put in a request with Dell for a new XP disk, and last night we went out and checked the prices on Windows 7 just in case we had to go that route.

In the meantime I was using my little netbook just to try and keep up a little over the weekend. Today I had been saving some of my favorites to TSU's PC, figuring I was going to have to use a combo of the two to get me by until we saw whether Dell sent us a new disk and, assuming they did, if we could get the sucker working by maybe next weekend, praying desperately that it wasn't a hardware problem.

TSU decided to take another stab at starting from scratch again this afternoon, just for the hell of it, and lo and behold - and knocking ferociously on wood - suddenly the drivers were there, and things were installing correctly, at least as of right now as I'm typing this. So I'm keeping everything crossed that by the end of the evening, I might have a working desk-top PC again, with all my back-up data reloaded.

What a weird week.

yavannauk, I got your v-gift and message. Thank you, and don't sweat it, babe. :)

ezust, I had called this afternoon and left a message with your mom. Just FYI. ;)

We're hoping to get the hell out of the house for an hour at some point and get some sushi. We did take the pups for a walk earlier this afternoon because we all needed some fresh air, and the weather was beautiful. :)
