Depression leads to increased TV addiction

Last Friday I found out that my hairdresser friend went from bad to death's door over the last three or four weeks. Apparently when she was originally hospitalized in December for tests, as they didn't know then what the problem was, she picked up a C.Diff infection which, with her weakened immune system, has completely destroyed her entire colon and rapidly worsened her condition. Surgery to remove the entire colon is the only option, and even for a healthy person that's a daunting surgery with a long recovery period. They doubt she'd survive the surgery much less the recovery. So her husband had to make the hard choice to stop all other treatment except the morphine, and wait for the inevitable. Instead of the six-nine months the doctors originally gave her, she has probably days. Her family set up a website through CaringBridge to keep friends and family updated. Very sad. :(

The Spousal Unit and I went out to dinner on Saturday where we talked and I poured out all my fears and frustrations and feelings about life in general - nothing to do with him, just the shit state of the world - and I told him I think I may have to see a shrink at some point. I told this to ezust over the weekend too (boy, I bet she's sorry I called - *grin*), and she said the positive in all this is that things really are shitty, so I'm not paranoid. You know, like you're not paranoid if they're really out to get you? Anyway, that didn't make me feel any better, but yay, I'm not crazy. ;)

Then I speak to The Girl Child yesterday and today, and discover that she's wired tight and completely stressed out over all kinds of things happening in her life right now; and so I'm even more worried about her because I need her to focus and get good grades and stay the course because, maybe, hopefully, four years from now there will be jobs to be had for college grads. On top of all that, this morning her computer crashed. *groan* It looks like she caught a virus and maybe her entire hard-drive is compromised. Great. So she's bringing it home this weekend. I just hope it's not as bad as it sounds. We may have to take her old desk-top pc to Gainesville on Sunday so at least she'll have a computer until we can get the lap-top fixed.

I finally finished watching all the Merlin episodes on Saturday, as well as the interviews and video diaries. The whole show is very cute, even though it still bugs a little that it's not the legend I'm used to; nor do I groove to how they're going the Smallville route where everyone who has ever been anyone in the Arthurian legend will have interacted long before Arthur becomes king. Still, it's quite watchable - not great writing or anything and the FX are pretty cheesy. I'm not as completely addicted as most of the flisters are, but I like the characters and the relationships; and yes it's got a lot of slash potential, though the slashiest relationship by far isn't Arthur/Merlin, but Morgana/Gwen. So, sure, I'll happily tune in whenever I can after the second season starts airing in England. I just wonder since NBC didn't air the first season as they planned to, have the US rights been released for the series to be picked up by Sci Fi or BBCA, or another network?

I'm tickled that LEVERAGE has done well enough to warrant a second season order. It's total escapism with fun and interesting characters. So far Parker is our favorite. She's adorable! ;D

On the flip side, I'm sorry to say that Trust Me has not charmed me the way I expected it to - or at all. It's just ... boring. Really really boring. *sigh* McCormack and Cavanaugh deserve better. Apparently audiences haven't been wowed either. Rumblings already say this one may be short-lived. I guess it's just as well now that Medium is back and already so much improved on last year's arc with Joe out of work and Davalos fired from the DA's office. Didn't like any of that. But everything is back to normal now, and Joe and Allison remain the most boss married couple on television (plus Bridgette continues to shine - that little actress is going to be big one day, I think). I'm happy with my little domestic psychic show. :)

The Closer is par for the course, and that's not a criticism. The characters are stable and still engaging - but the overall premise has become a little rote for me. I'll still catch this one later in the week during a rerun (especially now that Chuck has finally come back) or stack up a bunch of episodes on the dvr for later viewing, but it's not a "Must See Now" staple for me like it used to be.

Speaking of Chuck, I never could find those stupid 3-D glasses, and watching something shot in 3-D is really annoying without the glasses. Good episode, just visually aggravating.

While on the one hand I'm thrilled to be getting new REAPER sooner than later, I'm disappointed it's because the CW is more concerned about protecting that 90210 piece of crap from American Idol (oh, god, when will that thing finally die?) and are clearly sacrificing Reaper in its place. *sigh*

Experiencing yet another hard freeze here in central Florida. *grumble* We picked the wrong year to re-landscape the entire yard with tropicals. This is the worst year we've had in more than a decade for freezing temps. All we can hope now is that when the temps get warmer and we cut everything back to nubs, the roots are still good and most of these plants will come back. Otherwise, we're out a couple thousand bucks, at least. *groan*

reaper, the closer, leverage, trust me, personal, chuck, weather, merlin
