Had a great time down in Daytona. Work chased me for days. I was constantly getting calls from work. They set off the alarm 2x. I am afraid of what I will find. I had a dream this morning that I came back and found the Captin had turned the armory into a daycare. All my shelves in the supply room had been moved to accomidate the 2-3yr olds and the nursery was in the weapons vault. I was ranting about breach of security protocals. When the entire daycare staff decided to have lunch in the supply room. I began yelling for everyone to get out of my supply room. Then the captin comes in asking if there is a problem. I yell at him if he doesn't get all this daycare stuff and people out of my supply room I will have him removed from command for violation of security. I awoke pretty stirred up.
They let all the staff on our rear detachment go on furlough, except for me. So I will be returning to a ghost town.
Vacation was good though. It was a long drive to Florida. We setup and I had asked my wife to remove all the latches around the pop up camper, she missed one, told me she got them all. I began to crank it up and one of the lines snapped, because a latch was still attached. She said "I thought you got that one." Argh. The other three sides would lift but the third side had no tension on it. So I had to physically lift that corner of the pop up. Fortuantly we had prepared for such a problem as this. I had heard if the cable on a pop-up camper breaks it will fall and hurt everyone inside, so I cut 2 steel pipes to use as safe guards in opposite corners to hold up the roof in case the cables broke. So we ended up using those pipes to brace the roof. It worked well. The repair will be fun. I rebuilt the camper, but did not think to leave easy access to the cables. So I will have to open up the exterior ends or gut the camper to get to the cables. Or third option is take it to the camper store. I think I will postpone that for next year.
The campground we stayed at was nice, it was inhabited by the geriatric crowd. My kids commented, "Dad why are their so many grandparents here?" The kids got a lot of time to play with their cousins. We would do the beach in the morning, pool in the afternoon, and movie in the camper at night. We watched "My Fair Lady", "Brigadoon", and "City of Ember". I love romantic classics. We also spent a lot of time with my brother while the cousins played. We went two days to Kennedy Space Center. The kids had a blast. We had lunch with an Astronaunt. He had been on 3 shuttle missions. My other brother came up with his family along with my dad and stepmother and we had some cookouts together. My dad camped with us. He is in the beginnings of Altiemers. So it was a bit rough to see him struggle, but it did him well to have all the family there. My youngest brother and I worked our magic on the sand sculpting the Taj mal and Egyptian wonders.
