Anime Film Festival!

Nov 04, 2012 02:10

Now that I have been getting paid, I can actually afford to go out places and do things!

The most recent thing I have done is going to 5 movies at the Scotland Loves Animation Film Festival, which I really had lots of fun with :DDD

The main attraction for me would of been the PHOENIX WRIGHT movie, but unfortunately I was working that week and couldn't see it :(( Which is the movie I wanted to see the most.
It was on in Edinburgh the next Monday, which I could make, but I was so tried from work and had to wake up at 4:30am the next day so no.. sadly!!

I should also mention that all these movies were introduced by Jonathan Clements who is someone I know pretty well from anime magazines from the 90's when I was growing up. He really helped with the enjoyment of the movies.

There were some producers/directors there too, and some premières, but not at the ones I went to.

This "movie" I had seen before, it's quite old, like from 1993 or so, but it's one of those movies that are made from an OVA, which I had seen before, they usually add & remove stuff when they make the movie, but it had been so long since I've seen it, I couldn't tell!
This was really good, lots of exciting fighting parts and interesting enemies, it was really nice seeing this on the big screen even though it was obviously just a projected DVD.
(provided by Manga entertainment so it was a vhs tape -> dvd transfer as many of their older series on dvds are)

Known as Tokyo Fish Attack in the west, this was GREAT and so hilarious. Jonathan Clements really helped the crowd with understanding all the jokes and such, people were actually roaring with laughter in certain places. This film does have a lot of misogynistic sexual scenes in it, but they are played for laughs, of which there are many .. but this is a zombie movie, and a great one :D
(oh and the whole thing is on youtube if you search >.>)
And also, because people in the UK must copy anything Americans do, they cheered and whooped at the end of the movie XDD I clapped after the intro speaker, but not at the end.. no-one is there to hear you! XD

Berserk: Egg of The King

I know a little about Berserk, but I haven't read it.. but yeah! UK première for this movie, really cool, even though it has A TON of 3D CGI in it, which I can say worked very well for the battle scenes, but in some places it was a little unnecessary, and would have looked a lot better drawn. It actually reminded me a lot of the PS3 game Valkyria Chronicles (just without the pencil drawn filters). I think a lot of people were surprised at the high level of almost yaoi bromance in it, judging from their reactions, haha. I knew about it and was almost looking forward to it 8D

The sequel was showing the next weekend, but unfortunately I was again working and missed it :(

SUPER HEROES!! this is another one that is a TV series that has been made into a movie, with some remake stuff added to it! This was actually an international première :O
Jonathan Clements really helped with this one, as there was a LOT of product placement, which is a big theme of the series/movie. He also said these magic words "by the director of GAOGAIGAR" which totally made my night, as that is one of my all time favourite shows :D no-one cheered though, and I was possibly the only one in there that knew what he was talking about, so I almost went "WOO!" ... but I didn't want a full theatre to look at me XD
Good stuff though!! makes me want to watch the original series, too.
This one also had a lot of 3D, which seems to be a running theme for the festival lol.

Blood-C: The Last Dark

I went to see this purely for the animation! which was gorgeous! Production IG is always impressive. Lots of 3D here too, but it was the best looking of all the movies. This movie is a sequel to the Blood-C anime series, which is notoriously super violent. If you've ever seen that gif on the internet where the giant bunnies kill everyone in increasingly violent ways, it's that one! But even though I haven't seen that, this movie was still quite watchable, I've seen some of the past Blood animes so I knew who Saya was, for example.
This movie is violent, and there is blood EVERYWHERE, but slightly less so than the TV series for some reason.
Oh and the projector went off and they had to rewind the movie, everyone booo'd XD

Another great thing about this festival was STREETPASS \o/ I got so many people during that weekend, it even seems like some people came up from England just to watch the movies, as I got lots of people from there.

Hoping to go back soon to see some other stuff there, like Die Hard for Christmas :D

anime, adventures, fun, rl
