The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries, by: Z. Budapest

A while back, the head of my church, Rev. Don, did an interview with Z. Budapest. I was taken by her wisdom and decided to get her book.

It has taken me a long time to get through this book. I am not a feminist. I do agree with a lot of what she has to say, but other things are a little out-there for me. The book was originally written in the 60s and has been appended several times since then, so there are some bits that are a little dated.

That being said, its a very inspiring book. Coming from a Christian background, I had to ease into the idea of the divine feminine. This book did leaps and bounds for me in strengthening and discovering my own connection to Goddess energy. Her rituals are lovely and are thankfully devoid of "fluffy bunnyness" and an annoying rhyme scheme.

THAT being said, I'm not sure how true some of her retelling of "herstory" are. Of course, she would just say that my disbelief is due to my upbringing in patriarchal society... of course the men of the past have only recorded the history that they wanted. But its thought-provoking nonetheless - and makes me proud to be a woman :)

Also, I wish I had this book in paper-copy and not on the Kindle. The formatting was wonky in parts (like SUPER tiny font in long poem/chants) and I would have liked to have been able to flip forward/back to parts of interest. I haven't decided yet if I like the book enough to go pay for it again for the library. We'll see!
