Chapter 11 (Final)
Nino and Ohno were taken to the throne room.  The King sat with the Queen beside him while they listened to what the guard had to say.  Ohno held Nino’s hand as they waited. The King then looked up and turned to them.

“I will speak to the prince of the other kingdom alone first.”

With that said, one of the guards grabbed hold of Ohno’s arm and led him away from Nino. Nino tried to hold on but ended up with Ohno’s hand slipping away from his own. Ohno mouthed the words  ‘Remember what I told you in the forest’, and Nino reached for his necklace. After Ohno was out of the room, Nino faced the King.

“So you are Prince Ninomiya. The Prince everyone has heard so much about”, the King said.

Nino nodded, unsure what to say in this situation. He wasn’t sure what would happen to him.

“What is that you keep fiddling with?”, Nino froze and the King beckoned him forward. Nino came towards the King and the King stood, reaching for the necklace and looked it over.

“That’s a nice piece of jewelry you have there. Real silver?”

“I don’t know. It was given to me.”

The King nodded and gave Nino a weird look.

“Your brother is on his way here on behalf of your father.”

Nino swallowed and dread grew within him. He hoped Ohno really knew how to get them out of this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The guards left Ohno alone as soon as he was out of the throne room. He knew where he had to go. He was walking down the hall when a familiar figure came into view.
It was Chinen.
“Ohno-kun! What a surprise to see you here. So you were the one who took my dear brother.”
“Why can’t you just leave Nino be? If you don’t like him that much why go through all this effort?”
“I want you. Simple as that. He can’t have you.”
“I’m not some possession for someone to have. You are really close to crossing the line. I thought I could at least have a little affection for you because you were so much younger and got attached to me all of a sudden. Now that you’re showing your true colors, I no longer feel any affection towards you.”
“That’s fine. But I do have a way to get Nino out of that marriage.” Ohno fell silent.
“And what is that?”
“Marry me and I’ll ask my father to make it so Nino can live his life the way he wishes.”
“How can I guarantee that you will do that?”, Ohno asked. Chinen just smirked and Ohno smirked back.
“I don’t care what kind of plan you think you can fool me with. I have my own plan to save Nino and I WILL succeed. “
With that Ohno continued on his way, leaving Chinen frowning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nino was not startled when Chinen entered the throne room.

“Your majesty, I am here to retrieve my brother. I apologize for the inconvenience and am grateful for the help of finding him.”

“Yes, yes. What is so important that you have to chase him all the way here?”

“He is to be married to another prince in a few days time. Ohno-kun seems to have taken him from the palace so they can be together.”

“Engaged? To another prince?!” The King looked at Nino, then back at Chinen outraged.

Suddenly, the door opened again and Oguri-sama entered the throne room. Walking towards the King, he handed him a letter. Chinen looked angry.

“So this is where you’ve been?! You married the princess from this kingdom?!”, Chinen almost shrieked.

Oguri-sama turned to Chinen with a bored look and chose to turn to Nino instead and gave him a sneaky smirk.

“This kingdom’s princess is married, so that only leaves their prince. My husband is from this kingdom so I come here often”, Oguri-sama said. He bowed to the King and left. Nino thought he saw Jun waiting outside. He frowned,  ‘Jun?!’ He shrugged. It made sense - Jun’s behavior and even Oguri-sama’s. This was an interesting development and he couldn’t wait to tell Ohno. ‘Oh yeah. He’s not here… ’. Nino sighed and zoned back into the conversation.

“Yes. So if I may take him now I… “, The King interrupted Chinen.

“Just one moment. My son is coming and seeing as he will be taking over soon, I want him to handle this matter.”

“But your highness… “, Chinen was again cut off by another voice.

“That is no way to treat a king from another country. What kind of prince were you raised as?”

Everyone turned towards the door, except Nino. He couldn’t deal with any more people right now. He just wanted to run away with Ohno.  Meanwhile, leaning against the doorway lazily was the prince of this kingdom. The King stood up smiling.

“Welcome my son. Everyone, this is the future king of this country, Satoshi.”

Nino thought he heard Chinen mutter ‘So you were a prince after all’ but he probably imagined it. Footsteps were heard and they got closer to where Nino was. Nino decided to look up seeing as he was probably being rude to the other prince. When his eyes reached the well-dressed prince, he almost tripped over himself in shock. Walking towards him was Ohno. Nino frowned as Ohno came up to face him.

Ohno knew what was going through his head, for he said, “Satoshi is my given name. Hence the S on the necklace I gave you.” Nino nodded but still couldn’t speak. Ohno reached for Nino’s hand and gave it a squeeze.

“I need to greet my parents but don’t worry. I told you I would solve everything.”

Ohno left and walked towards his parents, followed by his guards who Nino noticed were non-other than Tegoshi and Toma. Nino needed to sit - this was all too much for him in such a short amount of time. He needed to pay attention though so he looked back at the King and Queen. Ohno greeted his parents and then signaled something to Tegoshi, who walked over to Nino. Toma seemed disappointed that he wasn’t selected and Ohno gave him a look that had him straightening out his back and looking anywhere but at Nino.  Tegoshi smiled at Nino.

“Nice to see you again, Nino-sama.”

“Likewise, but why are you here?”

“Satoshi-sama thought you would need some kind of support right now. It is a lot to handle. The guards that came to greet you in the forest, their color was purple was it not?” Nino nodded. “That is because they were Oguri-sama and Jun-sama’s guards. This kingdom’s color is different.” Nino looked at Tegoshi’s uniform and then at Toma’s. He was right. They were both wearing blue.

“Satoshi-sama made sure that their guards claimed to be ours on purpose. Oguri-sama isn’t quite the person everyone believes him to be… especially not around Jun-sama. Jun-sama runs a tight ship, so to say.” They both laughed but silence fell over both of them when they heard Chinen yell.

“What exactly is going on here?! Wait, it doesn’t matter. Ninomiya is set to marry another prince. They are engaged. You may be a prince but you can’t break that contract.”

Ohno faced Chinen and stepped down from the throne area and towards Chinen.

“That may be so… but you failed to realize one thing. Nino was engaged before those contracts were formed.”

Nino frowned. When did he get engaged? This situation was confusing him. He felt Tegoshi give him a pat on the shoulder.

“All in due time”, was all Tegoshi said.

“What do you mean he was engaged? If you are referring to yourself, then your father never spoke to mine”, Chinen challenged. Ohno’s smirk returned at his statement.

“You fail to remember that not every kingdom has the same engagement method. Both you and your father have seen Nino’s necklace, I presume?”

“What of it? It’s a stupid piece of silver he always plays with.”

Toma looked ready to pick a fight with Chinen, but Ohno raised his hand to stop him.

“That ‘stupid piece of silver’ as you put it, is very important. Perhaps you and your father forgot about the different ways of other kingdoms from your lessons because you didn’t deem it as important because it was old-fashioned. But my kingdom still uses this valued tradition of engagement.”

Chinen paled in realization. Nino frowned. He had not gone to those type of lessons because his father didn’t want him to know more than he thought he should know. Tegoshi tapped him on the shoulder.

“Look at the Queen’s neck.”

Nino looked at her neck and was surprised. A necklace very similar to his was around her neck. The letter was the letter ‘M’ but everything else was the same - the chain, the diamond. Nino held onto it once again and realized just how precious the necklace actually was. Ohno started speaking again.

“You know that if the one given the necklace accepts it and wears it, they accept the proposal and are officially engaged once the King sees the necklace and does not object within a week’s time. Nino and I are officially engaged and there is nothing you can do about it. I demand you leave my kingdom at once, and you and anyone else from your kingdom is to never be allowed anywhere near our lands.”

With that Chinen was escorted out of the throne room, kicking and thrashing, by two guards. Tegoshi grabbed hold of Nino’s arm and began to lead him away.

“Where are we going? I want to speak to Oh-chan.”

“He has lots of business to attend to right now. You will see him later.”

Nino turned back to look at Ohno but Ohno was discussing something with the King while the Queen was hugging him like crazy. Nino grew sad but followed Tegoshi until they reached a door.

“Please go inside. You will find all your things inside.”

Nino entered the room and found all his belongings were indeed inside. There was a knock on the door and Nino told whomever it was to come in, hoping it was Ohno. His smiled wavered for a bit but came back when he saw who it was. Sho and Aiba came running towards him and Jun and Oguri-sama entered after them.

“You finally made it!” Jun said, as he sat on the bed followed by Oguri-sama.

“Yes, and I see you finally got with your mystery man. So were you always disappearing to talk to Ohno then?”

“Not always. I also went to see Shun and both of us helped Ohno orchestrate this. Sho knew about this too.”

“Ne, Nino he did! He never told me about it too!”, Aiba cried. Nino laughed.

“I apologized a lot for that Aiba. I felt terrible for not telling you.”

“I’m still mad at you. You’re sleeping on the couch again!”

“Masaki!”, Sho whined.

“But if Ohno is the prince, why was he living in my kingdom? Why was he living as he was? You and Sho were both there to protect him right?”, Nino inquired. Jun sighed.

“Yes we were. Ohno was there because he chose to be there. He didn’t want to become king without going through some hardship and training. He felt he was lacking a lot and wasn’t fit to be king. He wanted to understand the common people more. He didn’t want to live amongst his own people because they knew him and he wouldn’t get the real experience with them treating him different. He chose your kingdom and used his talents to make a living.

We’d been there for two years. The whole time, Satoshi-sama heard about the mistreated prince and was always curious about what you seemed like. He was surprised that you were the prince everyone was talking about. He fell in love with you and was determined to take you away from there but many problems arose as you can see. I’m glad the idiot prince remembered the necklace. But there you have it. When Ohno was exiled he came back to the kingdom but not to the palace. He spoke with his father about everything and they arranged the guards to help get you out of there. Ohno officially re-entered the palace today, which is why he is so busy and his parents are an emotional mess. He hasn’t seen his mother in two years. It’s been hard on Ohno because he’s really close to her”, Jun explained. Nino nodded.

“I think we should leave. You look tired”, Oguri-sama said, and he stood pulling Jun up with him. He wrapped an arm around Jun’s waist and they left the room. Sho followed Aiba to their house, trying to console Aiba.

Nino was alone in this new room. He sighed and checked it out before lying down on the bed. He played with the necklace again, hoping Ohno would be back soon. He must have fallen asleep because he found himself waking up to soft caresses on his face and his name being called. Nino opened his eyes and saw Ohno leaning over him. Sitting up quickly, Nino hugged Ohno and buried his face into Ohno’s neck.

“It’s alright. It’s over now. You’re safe and I love you Nino”, Ohno said.

Nino didn’t say anything. He didn’t know what to say, but words came out of his mouth.

“Thank you, and I love you too.”

Ohno tightened his grip on Nino.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I wanted to but I was still doing my training and it’s better not to reveal all your cards to your opponent early on. I’m just so glad you’re safe and you’re here.”

“I am too… but are we really engaged? And I didn’t know?”

Ohno pulled back looking sheepish and nodded.

“Yes, we are ‘officially’ engaged according to the royal legal system, but I don’t consider us engaged yet.” Nino’s smile fell at that and he felt a little hurt.

“Oh.”

“What I mean is that, if we’re going to be engaged, I want to ask you the right way. I feel like it’s cheating and wrong to consider us engaged because of this. I mean if you had known about the tradition beforehand and then agreed that would be different, but it’s like I tricked you somehow.”

“So you would like to be engaged to me then?” Ohno laughed.

“Of course I would!  I even prepared a ring and everything!”, Ohno covered his mouth.

“Damn”, Ohno cursed at his slip of the tongue.

Nino looked surprised. Ohno ran a hand through hair and sighed. He pulled a box out of his pocket and presented it to Nino.

“It’s not the best proposal, but would you marry me Nino?”

“Not the best proposal? You saved me from my family and that marriage contract. You showed me just how much you love me today Oh-chan! Of course I will marry you!”

Nino hugged Ohno and shed a few tears of joy. Ohno hugged him back before pulling back to slide the ring on Nino’s ring finger. Ohno gave him a kiss on his temple.

“I love you Nino.”

“I love you too Oh-chan.”

“You know, you have to formally meet my parents tomorrow right?”

Nino blushed and pulled away hiding behind a pillow. Ohno laughed.

“What if they don’t like me?”

“They will like you because they will see everything that I see in you. The wonderful person you are. Besides, my mom already thinks you are adorable and my dad seems to like you. It will be fine.”

“If you say so.”

“I do”, Ohno said while pulling Nino’s face to his and kissing him once, twice, three times. He kissed Nino’s nose, his cheeks, his forehead and his chin. Nino was in a daze but when Ohno came back to his lips, he became filled with love and passion, kissing Ohno back. Nino was finally completely happy and he wasn’t afraid of it disappearing anymore. Ohno was the sun and the warmth that came into his life when it was so cold. He made Nino feel loved again and Nino loved him for that. Ohno was the warmness on his soul that brightened his days, his thoughts and his life. - he never wanted to be away from Ohno again. He loved him very much and he wouldn’t let Ohno go anymore. As they continued kissing, a soft song could barely be heard, for it came from deep within their souls.

“Your hazel green tint eyes watching every move I make.

And that feeling of doubt, it's erased.

I'll never feel alone again with you by my side.

You're the one, and in you I confide

And we have gone through good and bad times.

But your unconditional love was always on my mind.

You've been there from the start for me.

And your love's always been true as can be.

I give my heart to you.

I give my heart, cause nothing can compare in this world to you”
