Good news: I've made friends with a Japanese mom with a daughter around my own daughter's age. This has gotten me invited to a bunch of Japanese mom playdate groups where we both can practice our language skills

I think it's normal to be jealous of people who seem naturally more awesome at life than you do. You'd have to be oblivious to not be. What matters is what you do about that jealousy. If you dwell on it and become bitter and unpleasant, that's a disservice to yourself. If you realize that it's a wake-up call to yourself to examine your life and see if there's something else you could be doing to be more fulfilled, like making art again or taking a sewing class or playing the piano, then that's good!

Also, if she's that awesome, her kid's probably crazy cool, too. Sounds like just the sort of friends you'd want for yourself and your own kid!
