Saint October
Welcome back to the new season's MAGICAL GIRL anime. Thus far, cute girls, tarot cards, and mystical whatnots.

I am so NOT good with Magical Girl. >__>;;

Uh... maybe after it's subbed cuz it so does NOT look my style, what with the chibi-ness, the magical UNDERAGE girls, and the use of tarot cards to call up powers and costumes.

I have no attention span. SORRY!!
Nodame Cantabile

Japanese: のだめカンタービレ

WOW, first CDs, then a LIVE SHOW!! Now, an ANIME. And it's by the same production company (J.C. Staff) as did ayakashi and Honey&Clover. The piano playing parts are impressive only because it looks like a BITCH to animate.

The voice actors are well-known, although I think they made a mistake in casting Kazuya Nakai as Etou-sensei's VA. I don't think his voice suits Etou, but maybe it's because I'm used to seeing him play gruff characters.

Maybe it's because Etou-sensei needs more smooth and less gruff. Sure he uses a harisen to beat students, but that doesn't mean he's completely without redemption. In fact, towards the end, he's quite agreeable.

Also, there are 23 episodes scheduled. This bothers me because there is NO WAY they are going to be able to cover the manga. I mean, I want to watch them while they're in FRANCE. I WANT TO SEE THEM IN EUROPE!!

But... no... they always putter out right around the time Nodame gets a scholarship to a school in Paris.

WHY!! That's when their relationship gets interesting, Chiaki becomes HUMAN, and Nodame gets strong!!

Ah, why why why. I guess I should be grateful it's even ANIMATED.

There is some problem with the flow of the animation that I think is direction and editing issues. I maybe completely WRONG and it might just be Tomoko Ninomiya's art style. But J.C. Staff had no problem with Honey&Clover so if this is giving them issues, it's DISAPPOINTING.

Episode 1 aired this week. I look forward to see where they go and how much they dared to alter.

Opening Theme: "Allegro Cantabile" by SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH
Ending Theme: "Konna ni Chikaku de..." by CRYSTAL KAY
Director: Kenichi Kasai - this fellow also worked on the Live Action, so this should be interesting. It ALSO explains some of the quirks in the animation... there are few places where it's awkward, and it's more direction and editing, with some problems with the drawing style than with the storyline...
