In which she complains about tv shows

Today is (well, was) Sunday, which means The Walking Dead. Zombie cupcakes were a huge success. And then we stayed up way too late making more cupcakes for the office halloween party tomorrow - er, later today. But they're awesome so it's okay ( Read more... )

food, television, zombies, star trek

That was fantastic.

I kept finding myself wondering about Torchwood and...timing. I mean, the Torchwood institute was founded back in the proverbial day, but when did Torchwood Cardiff actually get built? And, okay, Aliens of London was a year after Rose - so...spring 2006? Or fall? and then this episode is 6 months after that. And we know Torchwood exists in the Christmas special which is presumably the following Christmas...

So, if the show Torchwood is understood to take place Now rather than 20 minutes into the future (the way Rose is understood to take place Now) that'd be...2006, right? Since it's contemporary with Series 2? Which would actually place it before Boomtown - except that the rift is already open...

I'm almost certainly thinking about this too hard. But then, Jack's taken the Slow Path from somewhere in the 1800s, right? So he's...kicking about somewhere when this episode takes place. Although he certainly has enough sense to avoid himself.

This, I suppose, is what comes from watching things in the wrong order :P

I was struck though by the Doctor saying that he'd make a terrible God. Remember that!

Jack did explain most of this in a sentence or two in Utopia. But yeah, he's already part of Torchwood and cleverly avoiding his former self. However, the show Torchwood is not contemporary with Series 2 but Series 3. It happens very specifically after the events of Doomsday.

It's best to watch Torchwood between seasons of Doctor Who. Same goes for Sarah Jane Adventures.

...note that he followed "I'd make a terrible God" with "I'd never get a day off for starters." Make of that what you will.

There were a number of other good things in that episode. The dynamic of the four of them was pretty excellent, even if Mickey hadn't quite gotten up to speed yet.

So if Torchwood 1 is contemporary with Doctor Who 3, which seasons should it be watched between?

Okay, cool! Yeah, I've actually seen Utopia, but I guess I either missed it or have forgotten it.

Oh is that what he said! I thought he said You wouldn't get a day off - that is to say, no Sundays. Which seemed like an awfully strange thing to say.

Yes, I like to see the characters work like a well-oiled team. And just have time to...chill. It's pretty much the only episode with Jack-as-crew, so that was nice to see too.

I can be watched either between 2 and 3 or trading episodes with season 3. In any case, it's last episode is a direct lead in to Utopia.

Poor Doctor, constantly on-the-job, his wife is SUCH a taskmistress. But then again, he wouldn't have it any other way, in fact he has said at some point that he skips Sundays cause they're boring.

I liked Jack-as-crew. I liked how the three of them were so very comfortable with each other, complete with Nine fending off flirtation from Jack and everybody giving group high fives.

"Is this how time normally passes? Very slowly, and in the right order?"

Yeah, it was really nice. Oh, and that CiN special - I didn't realize we actually got an explanation for why they didn't go back for Jack. "He's got his hands full rebuilding the Earth". Well, that's a kind of tall order, now isn't it? And we know from later that it's a lie, but still.

I'm so proud of the Other One though. He was like "wait, the Doctor has just regenerated. Shouldn't he be a little crazy...or unconscious?" So I think he'll be pleased when he spends the entire next episode unconscious.

Ah, Rule One, gets them every time. Except River, but then there are Reasons for that. And now you're going to be all confusedly speculating! *grins*

The Doctor is a bit crazy during the Children in Need special... it just takes a while to take. And then, you know, crashing.
