I was tired and ready to go to bed at 9; now it's almost midnight, but at least I accomplished something; sort of.
I uploaded another batch of drawings and sketches to my flickr account. I showed my mom and she said to me, "so if you put it on the internet, then you give it to everyone to use, right?" And I told her, "well, not exactly." I have my settings such that my stuff is mine and i haven't given "creative commons" licensing, so if someone wanted to use an actual image, they'd have to get my permission. If they used an image without my consent, I would have grounds to sue them, but that's not really the point. I like for people to see what I am doing. I think that's much better than having all my stuff sit in my sketchbook where no one but my mom gets to admire it now and then.
Today I got a pleasant surprise. One of my drawings inspired someone else's art!
I originally posted that image in
this post, and
kiwikat saw the drawing and used it as inspiration in one of her
latest drawings. I found the whole thing flattering to say the least. When stuff like that happens, it actually keeps me going to know that someone else is appreciating what I do.
That's why I put my art on the internet for "everyone to use". I think art is meant to be shown and shared, not held onto. Once I have an idea down on paper, it out there, it's not really completely mine anymore, at least not in terms of something to hold onto for dear life. I'm usually inspired right away with a new idea. If I held onto, and coveted, and stroked, and saved a few precious pieces, I believe that it would halt the flow.
I also like to hear feedback on my stuff as that often encourages me to do more, or to do better.
Anywho. Here's some of my latest work for all the world to see and use:
I did a few drawings on notecards.
I'm in love with the back of the geometric triangle-y card:
see the other notecards
here.
I scanned the fronts, backs, and the card open to show the full drawing. It's worth a peek.
For some unknown reason this one already has 18 views while most of the other most recently uploaded images only have 1 or 2 or at the most 3 views:
I drew this next design horizontally and wasn't a big fan. Then I turned it to be vertical in Lightroom and voila! An unlikely tree is born; and one I quite like:
I'm showing the small version here, but see it
bigger here if you like.
I scanned a bunch of things from the tail end of my previous moleskine sketchbook--the one that was horizontal in orientation and was filled with grid paper. I was surprised to find a few "goodies" that I hadn't scanned before I went to Portland. Since Valentine's Day is fast approaching, I'll show you a heart pattern that I drew on my birthday last year.
You can really see how great Prismacolor markers are here. I used some fine tipped stabilo markers to color in part of it (notice the purple-y hearts that have a lot of white bits of the paper showing through), but then eventually switched over to the Prismacolor ones (the color that's totally smooth).
One last page from the old sketchbook. This one is more "sketchy" yet so typical of the weird little creatures I often doodle when I'm not working on anything in particular:
Like the Roman sand flea (notice the paneled skirt)?
