Braids
My sister in law studied photography in college. She was loyal to film for a long time, but got a nice digital camera a while back, so she's been taking photos and posts some of them to flickr.
She posted one recently that I liked a lot. I liked the perspective and the composition, so I printed it out and traced it.
I liked the braid, and in my head that turned into these two unlikely plants:
