Today was gray and drizzly. The perfect Portland winter day. I wanted to get out for a minute, so I decided it would be good to go to my bus stop and take a photo from the corner. I took a few shots, and just as I was finished this guy walked up to me and started asking me about it. That's twice in two days that I've taken a photo of the same view down Burnside that had people intrigued enough to talk to me.
This guy was from Arizona and we chit chatted for a bit until his bus came. He said that he never took photographs himself, but always admired the art form. A few times during our conversation he'd stroke or adjust his long braided ponytail that draped over his shoulder onto his chest and nestled between the folds of his scarf. He confided in me that he was currently homeless and between jobs; that he was an out of work actor. He asked if there was some way he could see me again. I said, "no. not unless we happen to run into each other again on the street, no." He seemed genuinely surprised and asked, "really?" I was like, "yeah, really. I'm not comfortable with meeting up with you." He mumbled something about me being very attractive and "just his type" as I walked away.
I guess I'm just a magnet for weirdos.
I walked down to my coffee shop and got an americano. The barista and I actually got into a conversation about talking to random people on the street, which was kind of funny considering the past two days I've had.
I worked on my poster some late this afternoon, and then talked to the girl coordinating the whole thing. The final size is going to be 14x22. I've been designing it at 18x24, and while I knew it was a possibility that the size would change, I was hoping it wouldn't. Oh well.
I was feeling really restless and couldn't face buckling down and finishing the poster immediately. I decided to go for a brisk walk to burn off some energy. I stopped at my favorite Asian restaurant in the area, Misohapi, and got a salad roll.
Even though I only ordered a small appetizer, the waiter still gave me a fortune cookie with my check.
Not correcting the spelling, it said: Travelling to the east will bring you great rewards. Hmmmm. Very interesting. Very interesting indeed.
