6 down, 10 to go. Was stitching away in the Starbucks this morning. The group of guys sitting next to me kept staring, not sure why.

Done for the night. I've got the next 6 prepped and ready to go. The last 2 gussets get inserted into the seams, so those will wait until assembly starts. Now I need to start drawing out cording patterns to see ( Read more... )

Isn't it almost de rigeur to have a laptop on your table, at Starbucks (and a number of other establishments?)
Perhaps the group of guys next to you were fascinated by the low-tech approach to joining fabric? Perhaps they hadn't realized there is a low-tech method of joining fabric?

I am not conversant with Regency era stays, particularly, so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the cording was intended to provide body and support to the stays, or rather body to the stays in order to help support you. If that's correct, then wouldn't the placement and direction of the cording make a difference to how well the stays function?

Wrapping on or tying on clothing would be as low-tech as it gets (I think.)
But hand-sewing, albeit low-tech, produces the finest results, without question ( ... )

Alas, I lean toward Juliette, so heavy scaffolding is not strictly necessary. I just want to be sure I get a nice smooth line under my dress, and maybe a posture adjustment from the busk.

Juliettes will look younger and are likelier to remain firmer longer. Be glad!

Oh, come, now. This is a youthful style (the gown) you're wanting to make, and it takes a youthful figure to pull off the look! Enjoy being able to take advantage of it!
