We came back early. I have teh plague, or something involving a constant fever and massive congestion in my ears and sinuses, and tonsils the size of golf balls. Dixie was like two days ahead of me symptom-wise, but then, as she pointed out, she doesn't have tonsils. And the constant changes in elevation were agony on my ears.
Death Valley was fun. We got there Monday, and pretty much drove through to Panamint and set up camp. I highly reccomend Panamint. It's a bit remote, but there is shade, and unlimited showers. Also, it's up off the valley floor, so it doesn't get as scorching hot as Stovepipe or Furnace Creek. Yesterday we went down through Furnace Creek and over to Badwater. I don't remember that as well due to the massive amounts of cold medicine I had to take. I got a few pictures, but I think I forgot to reset the ISO from my night hike a month ago and everythin is going to be really grainy. Car did fine, not even close to overheating. I was overly paranoid about running out of gas, but better safe than sorry. OMG, there were road runners all over camp, and they are the cutest looking birds. Also drove by a lot of Yucca trees, which we don't have up in the Northern part of the state. There was also a lot more (and variety) cactus there. Anyway, we drove out through Scotty's castle this morning, though we didn't take the tour. Back through Tonopah where there was fresh snow. Oh, and on the way down when we stopped in Tonopah to get gas I saw my friend Phyllis from Italian class. Small world, eh?
I got home, dosed myself up again, and then I find out that my aunt Rosie died Sunday night and the rosary was tonight. I don't know if I'll be well enough tomorrow for the service, but we'll see.
Anyway, there is my aborted vacation.
