Kid came home for a day and a half after being away for a week, then headed down to Oregon for another fire job. He is not sure how long he will be away this time. It is a 2 day drive down with the big trucks so I expect he will be gone for at least a week, probably longer. I tend to stress too much since I inherited my mom's state of perpetual worry. But Kid is capable and seems to know what he is doing. I noticed that he has been putting me on a bit of an information diet and telling more "fun" details to Husband instead, so I would not worry so much, ha. Husband and I share a brain after 30 plus years though, and whatever they talk about I get told anyway.
Work continues, with just another month and a half to go. Job market is deader than dead, with the LA animation union currently in negotiations with a possible strike looming, and Paramount, Nickelodeon's parent company, laying off more people as the merger process with Skydance continues. Every week it seems like entire departments are being cut. As can be expected Nickelodeon recruiting is not getting back to anyone. Fingers crossed that a strike does not happen and the new projects waiting in the wings will start up in September.
Our egg supplier is moving out of state, and offered us some of her chickens. Husband has spent the past few days cleaning out the old chicken run and refurbishing the coop. Tonight we will be picking up 6 hens and a rooster. It will be interesting to have chickens again. It has been quite a few years. The current batch of indoor/outdoor cats have never seen chickens. I wonder how they will react! Hardway likes to hang out on top of the coop on sunny days, that will probably end very quickly when the rooster arrives.
This weekend is the county fair. I am still undecided about going. The rodeo is fun, but it will be hot and dusty.
Kid's cat Miss Spots is not happy about Kid being gone so much. After checking his empty bed this morning she spent some time wandering around the house howling. She is sitting in front of me right now, blocking the monitor.
Grumpy Miss Spots.
Back to work for me. Today's agenda: Desert landscapes, conductor hats, and a defective train whistle.
