“Hyukkie, are you home?” shouted the two little boys standing in front of the blue painted house.
The door opened revealing a woman with short curly hair. She smiled at the cute guests when they bowed their heads.
“Good morning, Mrs. Lee.”
“Good morning, Sungmin, Donghae.”
“Is Hyukkie home, Mrs. Lee?” Sungmin, the boy in pink t-shirt, asked.
“Yes, he’s playing at the back yard. Come in, kids.”
The boys nodded and followed the woman into the house. She was Hyukjae’s - their best friend’s - mother. In their eyes she’s very pretty and gentle. She always treated them nicely as if they were her real sons.
“I’m preparing some cookies. They’ll be ready in a few minutes. Would you like to have them with us later?” She asked as they stopped at the kitchen.
“Mrs. Lee’s cookies are the best!” exclaimed taller boy.
“You’re drooling already, Hae-ah.” Sungmin giggled.
“I’m not!” The brunette gasped and covered his mouth.
Mrs. Lee couldn’t help but smile at these adorable kids.
“Thanks for your compliment, Donghae. Now go to find Eunhyukkie. When the snack is done, I’ll call you, okay?”
“Okayyyy~!!!” They cheered excitedly in sync before running toward the back yard.
Mrs. Lee’s garden has a lot of plants. There was also a swing at the corner of the garden where they often hung out with…
“Hyukkie!”
Sungmin shouted it loud when he spotted his best friend squatting near the bushes.
The boy named Hyukkie looked up and greeted them with a bright smile.
“Minnie, Hae.”
They ran to stand next to him. The red haired boy was digging a hole with a plastic trowel.
“Whatcha doing?” gaped Donghae.
“Looking for earthworms. My mom said there’re many earthworms in our garden. I wanna see some” Hyukjae replied enthusiastically. He lifted his hand and was about to wipe his sweaty face with it, but Sungmin had stopped him.
“Your hands are dirty, Hyukkie.” He said with a serious expression. “Let’s go wash them.”
Hyukjae’s mouth formed an adorable “Okay” following with a gummy smile.
As soon as they turned the faucet on, Donghae showed up beside Hyukjae. There was dirt on his face as he was waving his mud covered hands.
“Is this an earthworm? I caught one!”
His two best friends stared at the long, thin, soft dark brown creature between his fingers. Sungmin made a disgusted face when Hyukjae widened his eyes in enjoyment.
“You’re so cool, Hae!” He didn’t hide his admiration toward Donghae making the younger boy smile widely.
“Eww… That’s so dirty, Hae. Throw it away and wash your face and hands.”
Donghae pouted at Sungmin’s comment, but he still felt happy thinking that he had impressed Hyukjae.
--------
Hyukjae blinked as watching Sungmin’s milky white hands caressing his hands in the water. The latter was washing his each and every finger gently and carefully to remove the dirt. Hyukjae looked up at Sungmin’s face. He was smiling cutely as well.
“Minnie is so caring and gentle just like Mom. When I grow up, I will marry Minnie.” He blurted out causing Sungmin and Donghae to stare at him.
Sungmin blushed and nodded shyly while Donghae frowned.
“Hyukkie will marry me because I’m so cool, right?”
“Eh?” Hyukjae blinked with a gummy smile remaining on his clueless face.
“But he just can marry only one person.” Sungmin informed.
“Minnie can be Hyukkie’s wife. I’ll be his husband.” Donghae suggested.
“Eh?” Hyukjae turned to look at Donghae then Sungmin, but they didn’t pay any attention at him.
“I don’t wanna be Hyukkie’s wife. I wanna be his husband too.” insisted Sungmin.
“But his husband will be me.”
“What do you think, Hyukkie?” Both of them suddenly turned to Hyukjae and questioned.
The confused boy kept blinking non-stop. He really didn’t get what was going on between his best friends. He just knew that friends shouldn’t fight. Friends should love each other like a family. A family…
“That’s right!” Hyukjae exclaimed. “Hae can become my dad, Minnie can be my mom so that Hyukjae will be loved. We will be a happy family. Isn’t it good?”
Donghae and Sungmin’s face went emotionless while Hyukjae excitedly shook their arms.
“It’s a brilliant idea, right? Right?” He repeated.
“Well…” Sungmin sighed. He was about to reply when a loud voice interrupted him.
“Hey kids, cookies are ready!” That was Sora, Hyukjae’s older sister.
“We’re coming, noona!” Her little brother shouted back before turning to his friends. “Let’s go!”
They nodded in response and walked behind him toward the house.
“This role playing game is ridiculous.” Donghae mumbles as walking next to Sungmin. “There’s no way I agree to be his dad.”
“Right.” The older one sighed again.
They both looked at their carefree little friend when he showed them his cutest gummy smile.
“Come here quickly, Hae, Minnie.”
‘I just want to be your husband, Hyukkie…’
