Stem Cells, Sun, Sex and Comics

I missed my Chem lecture again (what a shocker), but made it in time for everything else.

Today's MCB 15 lecture "got my goat" as one of my friends says and I couldn't quite grasp some of the abstract ideas behind self-transcendence and post-human ideology. -_- Still I understand about a spoonful more the religious and ethical framework that defines the argument against stem cell reasearch. When our lecturer went over what the Vatican meant on its position over this issue, I think I understood why it deems this research as that of man playing god and how humans, even in such a primal stage deserve the dignity owed to them. I did like though that he also presented the official statements from the Islamic and Jewish communities as well. The Vatican's opinion has always been thrown in my face by my peers as the stance on religion, but that's clearly inaccurate now. So now when my nephews argue with me on the matter, I can partially slam down their arguement by these new perspective. Religion and Science, I'm starting to think the two can coexist in me. :)

For the first time in a long time I enjoyed the sun outside. After class my friend Alejandra and I went to Quizno's for some food, but afterwards and with the intent to talk about our presentation project we went near the West Circle and just found a nice sunny spot to be a couple of fat cats. It was really cool talking to her about school, guys, sex, cloning, simple and fun things that can be spoken of while enjoying a nice sunny afternoon. However I forgot how much your butt can get wet even on the warmest of grass. ^_^;; Still laughing about our wet spots added to the appeal of being lazy outside.

After the simple joy of that, me and Beck went to Gypsy's to talk to/get interviewed by one of greystrata's friends named Mike. More or less his project research involved interviewing students from low-income communities and backgrounds to see how they've gotten to where they are now and show how it's possible to succeed inspite of certain barriers. I got there a bit early and so just chilled there for awhile (sorry again r_y_l_l for calling you during class! ^_^;;). Eventually he came and after introductions and plesantries we found ourselves in a good ole fashioned conversation. The best part is that it centered around comics and movies! We hit it off pretty well and the fact that we agree that Batman is the shiznite out of the JL gang and DC fandom is a good sign. ^_^ Cool guy and easy to talk to about certain things. I'm glad MaiMai told us about his project. (To be honest I found it rather pleasing to let out some things that normally don't fit into an everyday conversation.)

I can't wait for tomorrow, there's a couple of funny hurdles waiting.

slice of life, religion, friends
