I don't know what I'd do without Medicare/ Medicaid. My medical bills are astronomical! It's good that you can get by and somehow afford the meds you need, but we seriously need healthcare reform. You should be able to see the doctor, you shouldn't have to pay such prices for needed medication unless you're a millionare. You're not, are you... cuz in that case :)

LOL! Nope, no millionaire here...I just use my meds in severe moderation. Enough to stave off the asthma attacks.

Yeah, even the replacement drugs for advair are expensive....and advair is like a miracle drug for me.

Without it, I have asthma bad enough to send me to the hospital.

I am lucky that I can make a 30 day supply last a long time when my asthma is under better control.

You are so right! Things do have to change. This is an issue I feel so passionately about. My father's heart condition has shown me first hand how medical bills can financially break an otherwise very comfortable family. It is just insane the amount of money he has had to pay over the years, and he HAS insurance. Just one of the MILLIONS of "underinsured."

Insane, I say!

Okay, I will quit yelling now.

Absolutely insane. If my parents didn't have full coverage through the VA, I KNOW my father would be dead, and my mom wouldn't be in good shape either. They wouldn't have been able to afford the medical bills.

My dad is a severe diabetic with heart trouble. He's a double amputee, and so many other issues.

:( :( It's unbelievable that there are people out there who are so callous who think that all of us un/underinsured people could have all of our problems solved if we would just "get off our lazy ass and get a job..."

*sigh* Most of the people I know in trouble HAVE jobs, and HAVE insurance, and STILL can't afford to get better.

Canada sounds so so so good to me sometimes.

My son just wrote a brilliant piece comparing our healthcare system to Canada's. It was very informative. They have it going on there! Americans, as a culture, are such hard headed bully boys. We're the screaming, impossible to please toddlers of the world. *sigh*

they have supplemental plans for prescriptions that might do you some good...kind of like american dental, but for drugs. usually 10-20 bucks a month, and it drops your pills down to the insured prices usually.

you can also try going to the manufacturer of the meds to see if they have an assistance type program for payments

That's what I said. They also are really good about helping people lose weight, and giving them options and such.

I totally agree on the healthcare debate! I am asthmatic, borderline diabetic, hypertensive, with degenerative disc syndrome, and rhumetoid arthritis. I am not insured, and can not afford insurance. I recieve state assistance for food but have been denied medicaid. In fact they told me the only way to get it was to be pregnant?!?!?!??! WTF so I have to make a child I can't support to get insurance?

I dont understand and I dont know where to go from here.

AUGH!!! This is another one of my huge issues!!!! We pay people for having children.

I am NOT saying that there aren't legitimate mothers and families who have children out of love and desire to have a family, but I grew up in a neighborhood where it is common practice to have multiple children to increase the $$ amount of benefits given to them by the government.

it INFURIATES me that because I have chosen to be childfree that I am somehow less of a person and not as entitled to healthcare and assistance as someone who has chosen to have kids.
