Before I start in with my own self centered post, I want to say CONGRATULATIONS to ERIN and FERRELL who are getting married in Vegas (like now)... I want to say CONGRATULATIONS to GENEVIEVE and MICHEAL who got engaged in the most awesomist fashion ever last weekend. I'm very happy that I get to share in this moments with friends like all of you.

Robert went back home. He left yesterday morning because his parents 30th anniversary is today and he had to be there for the celebrations. He got home around midnight last night, the trip took longer then normal because he wasn't alone. HE/WE got a dog while he was here. As everyone has read, he moved into a big three bedroom house in a nice area of Gulf Shores... this house is too big for him so I have been talking about getting him a dog for his birthday. While he was here we went and looked at the Putnam County animal rescue because he said "well, you're gonna get one for me anyway, I might as well have some input"... (but he was all smiles). He went in with 2 rules. It HAD to be a boy, and it had to be a big dog, or pup that would grow to be a big dog. Let me sidetrack to say that pounds and places of the sort make me so sad, if I could have taken them all I would have. So anyway, we look at all the dogs and I fall in love with a little Husky puppy. But it was a girl so he just looked right over her. He likes this little shephard mix puppy. He got the shephard mix out and plays with him for a bit, now me, I didn't have much interest in the shephard... he was really cute... but he didn't seem all that smart and he didn't seem all that interested in me or Robert. While Robert played with him I went back and visited the little husky again. She was so cute. I got her out and started playing with her and Robert walked up to us. He conceded that she was really really cute but he just DOESN'T want a female. Then she walked over to the cage of another dog and stole his rawhide. At that point Robert said I could choose, she was at least an option because of her adorable thievery. Both dogs were out and I watched them as Robert walked around the kennel. The little girl husky followed him around while the little shephard ran back into his cage to play with the other dog in there. Decision made, we got the husky.
We came home long enough to pick up Ashton and took Ash and the puppy to PetSmart to stock up on doggy needs. We talked about a lot of names, but I kept coming back to Emma. She just looked like an Emma to me. Robert said he wanted the dog to have a long name, with a nickname so we could call her Emma if we could come up with something that was short for. I told him it didn't really matter what he called her, I was calling her Emma :-P
We ended up with Lady Emmalita (I don't really have any idea how you spell that?? Emilita? Emalita? Emmalita?... any ideas, cause I'm going to order her a custom dog tag with a Broncos logo on it)
She is so cute. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. She is really really well behaved already. They said she is approx 12 weeks old, but we all agree (including the groomer and boarding staff) that she is a bit younger. I think she is about 10 weeks old. She still doesn't bark or growl much, and she isn't very coordinated. When she lifts her back leg to scratch her ear she tips over. Its really cute. We never put her on the leash to walk her because she stayed right with us even when other dogs were around. She went potty every time we took her out and only had one accident in the house, which was my fault because I rushed her while she was trying to do her business. (Back off, it was the middle of the night and I was tired).
Neither Robert or I could go anywhere without her following us. In the house, out of the house, in the car, into the bedroom... right there on our heels. If he and I were in different places or directions she would sit and decide. (Normally I won I think... she spent a lot of time following me around). Robert would say "looks like you got a dog, she's not gonna wanna leave you...and you sure as hell don't want her to leave" Which is true, but his home will be much better for her then mine. I told him, "you're right, I do have a dog, my dog just lives in Alabama".
He was so sweet with her. Every few hours in the night he would wake up to make sure I had taken her out to pee. Friday morning I took her with me in the car while I drove Ash to school. He was asleep when we left but called while I was driving back "Do you have the puppy, where is she, I can't find her"... It was adorable.
We took her to get groomed on Friday. The groomer said she did really well, but guess that she would get to be about 75 pounds. I trust this groomer, she seemed to know everything about every dog under the sun, was very good at her job and interacted better with the animals then any vet I have seen.
So Robert and Emma took off yesterday morning for a 13 hour car ride home. He called me every hour for the first 3 hours to let me know how she was doing. He was worried because she seemed very nervous, but then she calmed down. He let her curl up in his lap for a little bit and after that she seemed fine. When I talked to him around 6 last night she was doing great and he had her out running at a rest stop. She was chasing squirrels.
I'm glad he has her now... I can't wait to see them both again. I almost cried yesterday morning when they pulled out of the driveway. I love my time with him, I just wish there were more of it. I couldn't tell him I almost cried. Few two reasons, 1, he doesn't do sappy or pouty (his rule) and 2, I typically don't do sappy or pouty at all... so it would come completely from left field and I don't know how he would react to that. Normally he and I are both standing there looking at the sap of the world and laughing at them together... his head my 'splode he he thought I had joined the ranks.
Oh well... he is gone now. I'm going to try and go down there to seem him sometime in either June or July... but there is a lot of other stuff going on for both of us this summer, so I don't know which dates yet.
Have fun this memorial day weekend... this post was all about Emma, I might get around to talking about the rest of the week soon.
