Wrong Side of the Metaphorical Bed

It's been a bad, bad morning! But more on that later. Real quick, wanted to give an update of the last few days. On friday I worked and, since it was the day before Halloween and because the head departments at work are closed weekends, we had all of our works' holiday festivities on friday. It was fun, we decorated our area and my team performed a really good Thriller dance...I have it on video haha. Saturday I was SUPPOSED to have a date, but he cancelled it several hours before it should have happened. SO I went grocery shopping and did nothing else. Sunday, I HEAVILY cleaned my apartment. The exact reason why I will explain in a moment. But I don't usually clean that extensively; so today my muscles are sore. Otherwise, my weekend was spent watching tv.

So, on Thursday night when I got home from work, there was a notice on my door from my apartment's management. They said that on monday (today) they are going to come in to my apartment for an inspection. I have two cats and I haven't paid a pet deposit on either of them (my bad, I know. No need to point it out). So I had to consider and review some options as to what to do with my cats.

Actually, before I thought of that, my initial issue was why I was being inspected. I found out that, luckily, I was not the only one who got the notice. Furthermore, I called management on friday and they told me the inspection has something to do with replacing sprinkler lines. So even if they did come into the apartment, it will likely only be maintenance guys who 1) don't care that I have cats and/or 2) don't know that I haven't paid the deposit for them. So I felt a little better about it, but thought it best to still clean up the apartment and hide the boys from any potential "tattle tales". I didn't want to even think about all I had to do to prep the apartment.

I took care of what to actually DO with the cats first. Originally, since they had a vet appointment yesterday, I was going to see if the vet would hold them overnight. That turned out to be expensive. Then my friend Haily offered to hold on to them overnight. But she REALLY didn't want to so she preferred to be considered "plan B". What I ended up doing, after asking several people if they thought this was okay, was putting the cats, their litter boxes, food and water in the bedroom for the day and put a note on the bedroom door, after shutting it, that essentially says no one has permission to enter my room and to please not go in.

Then the cleaning aspect? I had to do quite a bit. When I first moved in there, my little Igor was scared and nervous. He continuously used the carpet in the front closet as a toilet. That, in turn, perpetuated the cat pee smell throughout my apartment that I've never been sure what to do about. I discovered that there is tile under the carpet so, against my best judgement, I pulled up the carpet. It unfortunately still looks like I carpet was just yanked up from it, so I layed down a towel at the threshold and shut that door. I burned a lot of incense last night and think I did a pretty good job at getting the pee smell out. I also cleaned the litter boxes and took any cat waste out to the trash. The only remaining problem was some claw marks on my bedroom door frame. I decoratively hung a scarf up that covered it up and hope it remains undisturbed.

So I did the best I can, and hopefully all will be well. However, I've been nervous still over the whole ordeal and (even though anyone reading this may not care to know) got so bad this morning that I threw up. Part of me thinks everything will be fine, of course the other part is making me freak out. Management's office closes at 5pm, so hopefully then (as long as they don't call me between now and 5) I can calm down a little. But I won't be fully okay until I get home.

I know that it's my own stupid fault. I will definitely, especially if all goes well today, save up for the pet deposit as well before moving anywhere new. I feel like such an idiot for having to go through this in the first place. And though it is my fault, I still hope and pray that my home can remain my safe haven and that my cats will be okay and undiscovered today...
