Right. Thanks to Bea, I was able to find out about and read Arya's (petitecrivan) post about her disembarking the Good Ship and boarding the HMS Harmony. And, as I was reading her comments, I noticed that 1) Everyone thought it was an April Fool's joke and 2) When told that it wasn't, they still expressed disbelief and 3) some comments were actually quite cruel.
Now, I understand that to 'Quillers, shipping H/H is somewhat of an abomination. If Harmonians ever come to the SQ, we try to convert them to the Good Ship's way of thinking. But, lately I've been wondering... If I hadn't been listening to NPR that fateful day, and if I hadn't found out about the SQ, it really is quite possible that I could have been sailing on the HMS Harmony. Just a thought.
But, really, now, after someone's stated that no, their post hasn't been a joke, that they really are serious about what they've said, I think that people really should take them seriously. Or at least not be so cruel. If you don't like what you read, then you don't have to keep coming back to the same journal.
And, I think that I can understand why Arya was hesitant to post that certain entry. I know that the majority of my flist are 'Quillers, so I'm willing to bet like Ludo Bagman and say that hers is, too. I am glad that Arya will still be coming to the 'Quill, because, as she said, there are plenty of excellent stories that don't focus on Ron and Hermione or Harry and Ginny. During the Shipping Wars, I won't hesitate to assume that some R/Hers converted to H/H, or vice versa.
And, really, isn't that what the SQ is about? Meeting and making friends with (cyber) wizards and witches who might think differently or similarly and discussing the one thing that unites all of us? I like to think so.
Er...right-o. ETA because Arya was KIDDING, according to ABN. Who knew?
ETA to the second powah- Yeah, she was kidding. That ninja!
