Sorry for the influx of AI posts recently. I've just really lost my mind over this show. This is the first season I've had contestants I've liked so much (for the most part, Blake Lewis will always be the king in my mind), or a contestant I have disliked so vehemently. Hello, Mr. Gokey, who I had actually been rooting for until I realized he was a boring, late wife pimping d-bag.
So, the top 3 have all had their hometown visits, which means that we (mostly) know what songs the judges have picked for them to sing tomorrow.
Adam (chosen by Simon): I say mostly because apparently his song choice is still up in the air. Rumor has it that it's either One by U2, Wicked Game by Chris Isaac, or Love Reign O'er Me by The Who. Personally I'm hoping for Love Reign O'er Me. This was the first one I heard, and my reaction went something like this: "THE WHO! OMFG, SIMON, I MAY HAVE TO LIKE YOU AGAIN FOR THIS!" I am a huge fan of The Who, so this would be all kinds of awesome. And possibly stem my craving to see Adam do Acid Queen. Having said that, I think One really suits Adam. He could do spectacularly with this. It would be like when he did Black or White, except with a more soulful, way better song. Not so sure how I feel about Wicked Game. On the one hand I love this song, on the other, I can just imagine the sex faces he would pull whilst singing it, and I think maybe it would be better if he avoided that so close to the finale.
But even if all of these are wrong, his song was chosen by Simon, who's already said that he thinks Adam can be a huge world-wide success, and who has been seen practically kissing Adam's ass on more than one occasion. He won't have shafted him with his pick. Thank goodness he wasn't choosing for Kris.
Kris (chosen by Randy): Kris got Apologize by One Republic. I love this song, it gives me nice flashbacks to Blair 'losing her virginity' to Nate. (What? That was a hot scene!) I think this one could mesh well with Kris's aesthetic, however David Archuleta already did this one last season! And he did it rather well to boot. David's version was pretty sound-alike (as the judges would say) though, so I think Kris may have a shot at making this one his own. He can do really awesome things with a song arrangement. I realllllly hope he pulls it off.
Danny (chosen by Paula): Dance Little Sister by Terence Trent D'arby. I had to go look this one up on YouTube. I didn't much care for it, but Danny does have the same gravelly, deep type of voice. This isn't as well known as the other picks, however (assuming one of Adam's song choices are true), so he's really going to have to be spectacular to pull this off. Yes, I'm still deluding myself into believing that one more bad performance could spell doom for him. Danny doesn't really have a lot of charisma, however. He thinks he does, but he would be wrong. Also, lyrically, I don't think this is a good choice for him. Danny really likes to do his thing on songs like Endless Love where he can pull out the harp and heavenward glances and remind us all he's a widower. Or What Hurts the Most where he can really bust a nut on lines like 'What's hurts the most/ was being SO CLOSE!' whilst clutching his heart and reminding us all he's a widower, or Hero... well, I think you get the idea.
It's too soon to say whether Paula's trying to steer the bus away from Kris and toward Danny now, but it'll be interesting to see nonetheless.
I need to watch "Omega" again. Especially the scene with Claire and Topher at the end. That was the most intriguing scene of the entire episode to me. Topher is such a punk ass bitch. From what I've seen he has two modes; God-Complex Topher and Freak the Hell Out Topher. But, oddly, he was neither of those when Dr. Saunders found out that she was a doll too. It was more like he was having the internal freak-out of epic proportions without ever coming right out with it. Why did he make her hate him? And why did he seem to want her to know who she was? I must know these things!
And how epic was the Dr. Saunder's reveal? Even with the little bit of foreshadowing, I did not see that one coming. It will be interesting to see how that plays out if (please, Fox, please!) this comes back.
As much as I really don't like Alpha (poor Victor!), Alan Tudyk is really spectacular in the roll. He does crazy bastard with not multiple personalities but MANY personalities so well. The flashback scenes where he was in his un-imprinted doll state were very fascinating as well.
Paul even managed to redeem himself in my eyes a little as well. I loved him in the beginning, and I was rooting for him and 'Mellie' from the start. But it all started to fall apart for me when he had his Caroline dream. By the time he left Mellie, I kind of just wanted him to die in a fire. But he could have chosen to get Caroline out of the Dollhouse, and he chose Mellie instead. I thought the scene with the two of them at the end was really touching.
Of course, now he's free to fap over Caroline all he wants, so I might still be wanting him to die in a fire later on.
