We sat in front of my house on the wood steps,
You'd gaze into my eyes while I took a deep breath,
There with your head in my lap we stared at the moon,
Back then we could never answer eachother's questions too soon,
When you'd ruffle my hair,
Back in the days when nothing was fair,
I'd lie in bed thinking of what could happen the next day,
Everything was so unpredictable in a predictable kind of way,
When youre hugs meant more than your kisses,
When my dreams meant more to you than my wishes,
When everything you said was funny except when you told me your sister died,
Even then we found a way to laugh after all the hours we cried,
When a kiss in the dark was the highlight of my day,
When we didnt have to worry about throwing our lives away,
We'd just lay on your bedroom floor,
Listening to local music and talking about places we wanted to explore,
One day you said you wanted to buy a boat and sail the seven seas,
You said you'd only go through with it if you were married to me,
Back when you were satisfied with minium wage,
Such an unfamiliar concept this day in age,
Back when you'd give anything for just one of my hugs,
And I'd take the time to back you cookies filled with my love.
