FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL!! This will be one of my top 5 exciting moments in my life!!
I was able to register myself for the ADVANCE Human Anatomy class, thankfully with the help of my Junior High School. My old professor had sent a letter of recommendation that I be considered for this course!
Most of my friends are in the same classes as me so I’m exciting to see them on a regular basis. Club Registration Day will be in a week and we are all going to sign up for the Geology Club! I heard that Geo Club plans a weekend rock digging campout at the end of year! I can’t wait for that!!
I also saw Lucas around the campus but him being a year ahead of me, he didn’t really come up and say hi. He did nod his head when we passed each other in the hallways. It’s not that I expect him to acknowledge me… him being with his friends so I doubt he would want to embarrassed himself talking to a freshmen. At least we do talk at our weekend family dinners.
Oh! And the worst part of my day (because there always is a worst part!) I got lost for my last class, Astronomy! =(
I had my classes all mapped out this morning but I wasn’t informed that they moved Astronomy to a different room! Since none of my friends were taking the class I was left wandering the empty halls. I couldn’t find the classroom for the life of me!!
I somehow ended up near the gymnasium when I bumped into MARIA!!
I didn’t know she was going to the same high school! In fact, I hadn’t seen all summer and I don’t count the 2 seconds I saw her when she stuck her tongue out at me (Very immature of her!)
She looked so different! She grew her hair past her shoulders and she must had shot up a couple feet because I had to crane my neck up to look at her face!
She gave me that look, like she was saying, Hey Pelirroja Are you lost?
So I told her I was lost for my class and surprisingly she said she knew which one I was talking about. She also had to add that she wasn’t lost for hers, just running late.
She took me to the other side of the campus and pointed at the classroom.
I quickly walked into the class, apologized profusely to the professor and found an empty seat.
A few seconds later, Marina came in, apologized for being late and sat in the desk behind me.
I shook my head at her.

First of all, Papa and Mama decided last minute that they were moving me to a different high school. But what about my friends!!
Second of all, they never bothered to ask me! What about what I want?
I can’t believe them! They’re ruining my LIFE!!
Walking though those doors to that foreign high school gave me the shivers… I used to stand tall at my old school and now I’m feeling scared? I don’t know anyone here! And now I have to make NEW friends!
Well I can’t say I didn’t know anyone. Lucas caught up with me and showed me around the campus. He also let me sit with him and his friends during lunch just so I could get used to things.
Before my last class (Astronomy) Lucas and I went behind the gymnasium for a quick joint. Lucas had a spare class so he could take as long as he wanted but it was just a couple puffs for me.
When I finished, I rushed back inside the school but then I bumped into PELIRROJA!!
I didn’t realized how short she was!!?? I could see the top of her head!
The kicker was, Pelirroja was actually LOST for her class!! I would have never imagined HER being unprepared for anything! She would have had all her classes mapped out and placed on flash cards or something!
Since we were both at least 5 minutes late, I took her to our class.
Oh, she was sooooo grateful for helping her that I stay behind just so I could burst out laughing!
When I finished, I walked in and to my surprise, the only empty desk was behind Pelirroja’s.
When I took my seat, she turned her head ever so slightly, gave me that small grin and shook her head at me. I couldn’t help but grin back.
Maybe it’s not going to be so bad here after all.

For 2 months, I had a set routine I followed during my lunch period.
Mondays, I am at the Debate Club. Tuesdays and Thursdays, my friends and I are at the Geology Club meetings. Fridays I am at study hall to catch up on assignments and readings.
Wednesdays are my favorite days! It is the only day I have to myself. While all my friends are at their Band Meeting, I sit underneath my favorite tree with my thoughts.
Today I decided to finish the final acts to William Shakespeare’s’ Taming of the Shrew. I was probably ten minutes into reading when someone blocked my sunlight.
I looked up and it was Maria! She had an apple in one hand and the other on her hip. She had this smirk on her face. I half expected her to toss the apple at me. But we aren’t 7 years old anymore.
But she said hola. And I just looked at her; too shock to respond because Maria has never taken the time to speak to me at school aside from our Astronomy class.
She said hola again but when I still didn’t say anything, she planted herself beside me and took my book from me. She then started talking away while taking bites from her apple.
I couldn’t shake the oddness of Maria actually having lunch with me that I just listened to her.
The entire time I was thinking…. Maria Jose Miranda Ramos just ruined my routine.
Pepa
I watch Pelirroja… not in a creepy way (I swear!)
But I look for her in the hallways when I change classes. When I hear her laughter, I scan the room just to get a glimpse of her.
At our Astronomy class, I stare at the back of her head and ponder the shade of rojo her hair is that day.
Every day at lunch, I sit at the same table with my friends. Every Wednesdays, I see Pelirroja sit underneath that same tree and eat her lunch. Sometimes she reads a book. Other times she lays flat on the grass and bath in the sunlight.
Whatever she did, she looked - relaxed. And for 2 months, I watched her not really saying a word to her.
But something felt different today. I had this urge to talk to her. So I did…. Whatever….
I think I scared her because she didn’t say a word to me. I brushed it off and continued talking about random stuff.
When the bell signal lunch was over, I said I would see her next Wednesday.
She nodded her head.

I never realized how much I didn’t know about Pelirroja.
Like she has never been on a date and is fascinated with the human heart.
That she really is a book worm and school geek.
Or that she really misses her mother.
Her mama passed away when she was very young so Pelirroja doesn’t have a lot of memories of her.
Christmas is coming so I had Paco go through Lola’s old photo albums to find a picture of Silvia and her mama.
I’m going to enlarge the photo and frame it for Silvia!

# of Dates I have had - 0
# of Dates Maria has had - 6
# of Clubs I am in - 2
# of Clubs Maria is in - 0
# of friends I have - I can count them with one hand
# of friends Maria has - Way too many to count!
To summarize:
- Boys find Maria attractive… which she is
- Maria is too busy to join school clubs… because
- Maria is more popular than me
So why does she continue to hang out with me every Wednesdays? We have nothing in common except for her brother married my sister.
The thing is, we are able to share so many things without feeling awkward about it.
Today we talked about my mother. I have never talk to anyone about mama except for Lola. But it was nice to speak about my mother to Maria.

Lucas asked me on a date to the Street Festival this weekend!! It’s going to be a double date with Pepa and her date, Diego.
Pepa
I thought I would do a favor for Pelirroja. I convinced Lucas to ask her to the Street Festival.
He said she was pretty enough but was reluctant. So I gave him 500 pesetas to do it.

My head aches! My throat is dry! And my feet hurt!!
What HAPPEN last night??!!
Pepa
Oh sweet Princesa!! I don’t have the heart to tell you what happen last night!
Diego and I met up with Lucas and Silvia at the front entrance of the Street Festival. It started out fine! We were laughing, playing the games, winning prizes and enjoying ourselves. Lucas and Diego were able to sneak drinks for us also.
I didn’t realized that Silvia had never drank cervezas before so I didn’t pay attention to how many she had though the night.
I didn’t think much about it when she spilled her entire drink on the front of Lucas’ shirt.
I should have had a clue when she accidentally set Lucas’ sleeve on fire!!
And I should have stopped it when she draped herself all over Lucas and begged him to kiss her!
Then she threw up on his shoes!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
I ended the night early with the chicos and took poor Pelirroja home. I tried to clean her up in the bathroom but she won’t stop making a ruckus!
That’s all I needed was Don Lo to find his drunk daughter without her pants on while singing some commercial song as I am cleaning her with a towel!!
Luckily, Don Lo was working late at the precinct.
I ended up having to carry her to bed but when I tried to leave, she grabbed my hand. She mumbled for me to hold her while she slept. She was obviously still drunk but I crawled into bed with her anyways.
I held her until she fell asleep and then slipped out of the house.

All I can think about these days is Pelirroja pressed against me. It’s all I can think about.
What is it that I’m feeling??
Silvia
I still don’t know what happen last weekend!
Lucas won’t look at me and Pepa said everything was handled.
For the past few days I’ve been tossing and turning at night, trying to remember what happen at the Street Festival. But sleep wins me over and for some reason that last thing I remember is the smell of Pepa on my pillow.
