I just love
this. Trees SHOULD own themselves. And God knows that the trees around here can use some legal rights, the way they're being wantonly murdered to shoehorn in yet another cookie cutter McMansion into a plot which should not support that size of house.
I planted Stanley myself, from a chestnut which had sprung a hopeful root and which got pushed into the ground, and which had such a lust for life that it hung on for dear life, and GREW. Anything with that kind of tenacity and joy of living deserves to own itself.
And this house. So that whoever rents it from Stanley cannot EVER cut him down.
