1. There is a pile of quarters sitting on my shelf of which I have no recollection, as I don't recall having quarters at hand. Nevertheless, this is pleasant as it means I can do laundry or park on the street.
2. I think that if I ever stage Thomas of Woodstock I will end it by having an anachronistically-dressed Duchess of Ireland rush the stage with a group of bobbies, exclaim "THAT'S HIM! And make sure you get him, too!", and have the entire production broken up by said bobbies. Though it would be harder to do this properly onstage. I think it's very much in keeping with the spirit of the play as a whole. And sidesteps the problem of having to write an ending in blank verse with the inevitable heavy-handed links to Shakespeare.
3. Of course, this does introduce the problem that the Duchess of Ireland's late husband (notorious royal favorite -- though is there any other kind of royal favorite? -- Robert de Vere) actually died in a hunting accident. (And his widow seems not to miss him a whole lot anyway.) I suppose one could use the Duchess of Gloucester instead, but she's a major character so it's less random. ;)
4. Instead of doing anything productive this morning, I did my nails (seriously) and bounced around the apartment singing the tinhat song from two posts ago. It's very very catchy.
5. The music of the fourteenth-century English composer Pycard is the musical equivalent of LSD. It's fun. Little is known about Pycard, but he seems to have been under the patronage of John of Gaunt, which is definitely a point in Gaunt's favor.
6. I have a headache. This is very upsetting.
7. Do you think that the fracas over the Bush bathroom break note demonstrates that my recent research into the privygoing habits of the great is actually entirely relevant? I had really better hurry up and finish revising "Privy History"...
crackpot theories,
woodstock,
those wacky de veres,
