HURRY UP PLEASE ITS TIME

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.

This is the third time today (for loose values of "today") I've seen fit to invoke Eliot. I can't help it. In Shakespeare class the phrase "Hamlet has gone from being the playwright to being a dumb spear-carrier" was actually uttered, and could any of you have resisted? I rather think not.

I would much rather have a Chaucerian April ahead of me than an Eliotesque one. Sadly, the month ahead promises to be exceedingly cruel.

Incidentally, it feels really funny to type "Eliot" rather than "Elyot." The way I keep from screwing it up is to remember that the former is the one whose name anagrams to "toilets."

Right, then. Really must go back to studying.
