So sorry to hear that... :(

Just went and saved the Swedish forest! LOL! Those are fantastic links, starlit! So sweet of you to show me the way... :-D

Ohhhh... We like reading the same stuff then.... though I did go thru a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys/Bobbsey Twins/romantic novels phase when I was younger. ;-P I'll try to look that one up in our local bookstore. Sounds interesting!

Hope you're doing great, hon, and that you're enjoying life! (((HUGS)))

Yay for clicking on the links :D

I loved reading the Hardy Boys when I was a kid! I even tried reading Nancy Drew but I thought she was boring. I have a big collection now of Hardy Boys books, some going back to the 1930s! I still like to read them, they're good fun :D

Interesting questions. I have no favourite author although as a child I loved C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia. I read all the Jane Austen novels I could find and any Dickens as well as I love his seedy characters. I’m into romantic historical novels, supernatural fiction and crime mysteries so have read all the Agatha Christie books over the years. Victoria Holt is another favourite. Tolkien I found hard going but I loved the stories and characters so persevered and I do admit to enjoying all the Harry Potter books. I love the style of writing and the humour.

I don’t have much time these days for fiction devoting all my studies to historical research but if I had to make a choice between a real book and an ebook, the real book wins every time. I hate reading off a screen and will print it out to read later without getting a stiff neck!

Lewis, Austen, Dickens, Tolkien, Agatha Cristie... my, you've got excellent taste, my friend, though I haven't read much of Agatha Cristie's work. It seems I was stuck with Nancy Drew in my teenage years. Yeah, I'm not that fond of e-books either, plus I'd hate to lose my entire "library" if my hard drive ever crashes, God forbid!

Actually I'm not a friend of absolutefiction - but I do know about those links and click on them every day - it's a great thing to do!!

I read a lot of Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Jonathon Swift as a kid - loved to read. Now I mostly read fanfic - I have some favorites printed that I love to re-read every so often. I read short things on the computer - but for longer fics I print them and curl up in bed to read - heavenly!! Don't own a lot of books - but probably something associated with LOTR would be the most expensive - or maybe Harry Potter.

Oh - I forgot the Bobbsey Twins - I read those too!!

I love fanfic - don't get near enough time to read all I'd like these days!!

What's your all-time favorite book/author?

Ten years ago I'd have said LOTR and Tolkien. But now I'd have to add the Harry Potter series and J. K. Rowling, too.

What was the most memorable gift book you received?

A beautiful leather covered Bible with my name on it that my grandparents gave me for my 14th birthday. I still have it, but it looks its age now.

What's the most expensive book you own?

A 50th anniversary commemorative leather bound edition of LOTR. It's gorgeous and has a silk covered slipcase it fits in.

any particular quirks you might have while reading a book

I nearly always have a cat on my lap.

do you prefer paperback or hardbound, ebook or real book?

Actually, they're all OK with me, but I prefer a book I can hold rather than sitting and staring at the computer screen.

What's your fave genre, writing style

I've been an avid reader since I was around eight years old and I like lots and lots of different genres. The only thing I really don't like are silly romantic novels.

Thanks for taking time to answer everything, Yeux. I know you're quite busy, and spending online time can be a pain, so I really do appreciate the effort you put in when you post something whether on your LJ or comment here or on a mutual friend's journal ( ... )

...and Rowling for employing witchcraft and using a child as the main character in her series thereby influencing (negatively IMHO) the innocent children of this world. This has always puzzled me. I assume you haven't read any of the Harry Potter books. There is absolutely nothing in them to make a child believe in witchcraft anymore than a person reading LOTR would believe in wizards. Yet many conservative Christians approve of LOTR, but not HP. They're both nothing but fantasy. I don't think either Tolkien or Rowling tried to spread actual belief in wizardry ( ... )
