Day 3

Jan 07, 2010 00:00

Wow, that was an unexpected day! It is Epiphany today, and that it a state holiday here, so half the shops and whatnot were closed today! I ran out the door today to catch the parade, and whatever time it was supposed to start, and ran into my neighbor and his friends. We played the introduction game and then headed out. They invited me to coffee, and I decided to go with the flow and meet some new people!

Dear god! We had fun today! It started with coffee, and then they showed me the routes to take to get to places of interest. Namely, go out of my house, turn left and go straight! That leads me past the Duomo, past the San Lorenzo, past the Piazza della Repubblica and through the Ponte Vecchio and the across the Arno. It is hard to get lost that way! We wandered past all the sights and laughed and joked through the streets. Across the Arno we stopped into a place called the "Open Bar". We stopped for coffee and again and ended up with wine instead. We talked and laughed and the girls danced with each other. I ate some of the hard cheese. It had a good flavor and I did not mind it, which was very nice with the wine.

When we finished up there, we trekked back to the apartments, as the girls had to catch a train back to Greece. My neighbor and chilled for a bit then got back out for some grub and more walking. I think I need a pedometer! :P We stopped at a place right down the road from the apartments and had pizzas. I got one with sausage and peppers. It was wonderful! They do not grate the cheese, just put balls of it around the pie and then stone bake it. It was prolly one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time, and it was light, not a heavy meal. We then walked toward the Duomo again and ran into the parade in front of the doors. I got some pictures, but it looked an awful lot like the Renfaire! We followed the path of the parade for a little while and then it was finally over. We wandered by the Uffizi and then up and around for awhile, I am not even sure how far we went, just walking. It was fun to see the city and just look around. At one point I looked up into the windows of what looked like a very expensive apartment building and the lights on the top floor were on, and I could see what looked like an amazing fresco on its ceiling. People just living with history here.

After we got back it was dark and felt like 9pm, but was only 630. We took a break and then around 8 he knocked on my door again and we went for Italian Chinese food! heh! It was very good, and the place we went was interesting as you could take it to go or eat it there standing at a bar. And the food was all sitting there in bowls and they just nuked it before they gave it to you! The more I think about it now, the funnier it is! After that back to the house and I have been playing on facebook and here since then. Many pictures have been and will be added!

It seems that from here my neighbor and I are going to take a trip this weekend to Vinci. It looks like a neat little city!

Night all!
