Random thoughts and quibbles...

Okay this is something i have been pondering today, an online buddy had a conversation concerning Blood Ties 'Lifetime' and Moonlight 'CBS'.

Now while first and foremost i would like to point out that Moonlight is shown on a much bigger network with programmes that are very successful on it, not to mention CBS is a household name in the US, Lifetime has not really the same following, indeed many have described the show with a less enthusiastic response, it is a channel aimed at the 'housewife' in us all but i would argue that actually the shows they air are lack-lustre for want of a better word. Considering the time period that Tanya Huff wrote the 'Blood Books' that Blood Ties is based on, i am more inclined to believe that Moonlight has taken some of the storyline from TH's 'Blood Books' and did their own spin on the storyline and for that i am sorry but i just do not agree that one supernatural show should overstep another when the other is actually taken from, agreed upon and in fact wrote within allowing the authoress to actually take part on what she sees in the show's future.

Blood Ties has not had the network support that Moonlight has had, and this is why the fans of this show are emailing. calling, protesting their voices to be heard with regards the saving of Blood Ties from disappearing into obscurity. Most of us have been on the campaign purely to get network execs to see what a fantastic opportunity this show would be. It's not as if the show has not been watched, far from it. The eagerness of the fans has been paramount in the shows continuious watching, taping and saving, to be discussed in a plethoria of fan based forums and attracted attention from all over the globe. From the US to the UK and further, each fan has come on board to air their support and this is why it is important that we don't loose sight of our goal to make this show survive and be noticed, to have more seasons written by the wonderful team of Writers who have given us a fantastic first season with the hope of many more.

We all need to come together as a unit and let our voices be heard. Never have i come across such a strong team of a cult following show that are dedicated into keeping it alive and i would not argue with anyone that sooner or later someone will take notice.

Bloodties/bloodlines is a fanbase website that has had many an interview given by the actors of the show who fully support it getting a renewal of some sorts and the forum itself is a joy to go into, to brainstorm ideas for the show as well as meet and chat over the various episodes;

Another forum is of course the LivingTv forum that has a good fan base for the show that discuss every thursday the episode that has just aired. Most that have joined there are also in the BT/BL forum and welcome any new members to take part. So far unlike Lifetime, LivingTV are airing all 22 episodes in order and seem keen to keep the show:

The newest one that has been brought to most peoples attention is the Gateway forum that is mainly SG1 as a fanbase but also welcomes other supernatural/paranormal shows into the mix. There is a good forum thread in there for Blood Ties, again all with the same impression - Saving Blood Ties:

My thoughts on Moonlight or Blood Ties?

No comparison, sorry but when i like something i stick to it, i don't change sides even for a show that has taken most of its backbone of the Blood Books and put their spin on it. There is always room for one or more Vampire themed shows, heaven knows we had it for a good  5 years with the spin off Angel from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show, but to have two shows with the same theme is a bit too much even for me to handle.

Blood Ties aired before Moonlight, so therefore it paved the way for the other show to sit on but i would think since it is the original Vampire/Detective show with a male Vampire and female Detective that is should take presidence over Moonlight.
