Well as you can tell this has been bugging the hell out of me.
Lifetime is a network who bought Blood Ties, that much we do know. They also commited themselves to the full 22 episodes, again we know that. They promised to show all 22 episodes - YET broke the series/season up during the summertime with the promise of re hashing the first 12 episodes before it's (second season) premiere in October.
With me so far? Good.
Now here is the killer...
Blood Ties came back in October with the promise from Lifetime to show the full 10 episodes remaining and yet, with hardly any promotion of the show and it's ridiculous slot of Friday 11pm....they have now decided to put the final 2 episodes of this series up online for those lucky enough to be able to watch it via streaming video in seperate parts and to hell with those who maybe do not have internet connection to sit at home and look at some other godawful show as a replacement for Blood Ties.
Fair?
ABSOLUTLEY POSITIVELY NOT!
Why on earth should a network be allowed to do that to a show that has a massive fan base following, both from watching it on the television and joining various online blogs and sites. Not everyone has the convenience nor the privilege to be able to download it from itunes, nor do we believe that all of this will result in getting another season out of Lifetime. Currently in the US they have an on going strike, with the Writers Union WGA fighting for the fairness to be allowed royalities or loyalites from such things as the television industry. To be recognised for all their hard work in making episodes that have launched some fantastic television over the last couple of years and to finally get the money which frankly they deserve. As much as it is seen as showing programmes online as the new medium for people who spend more time on the internet than they do infront of the comfort of their own tv, what sort of message is it sending out to those unfortunate to not have that source of entertainment?
Currently, Blood Ties is being shown in the UK on a channel that has been showing it as season one, but who knows after it reaches episode 22 will the UK be allowed to have another season? Everything rides on a) Lifetime getting their proverbial finger out and actually buying up more of this show, which has seen an increase in traffic since the show has come back in October. b) another network reading the plight of all the fans loyal to BT and wanting more seasons made of this fantastic supernatural show, and buying it with the full intention of continuing their loyalty to the show. Now it is not much to ask, it was created by a company who has had full backing of not only the writer - Tanya Huff, but also the three main stars of the show; Christina Cox, Dylan Neal and Kyle Schmid - ALL in full support of getting a renewal for the show and allowing them to do the characters justice and give the fans what they want - MORE BLOOD TIES!!!
