Jealous? No way is she jealous! Bakit naman siya magseselos? Siya, si Ma. Beatrice Binene, magseselos? Why should she? Who the hell is she para pagselosan niya? And more importantly is he para magselos siya?
Those were the thoughts that kept running through Bea’s mind as she downed what could possibly be her 5th bottle for the night. She wasn’t really a heavy drinker but for some reason, she couldn’t stop herself from accepting bottle after bottle from her companions. She’s not even remotely concerned na siya lang ang babae sa grupo nilang iyon.
She had told herself na hindi niya bibigyan ng atensiyon ang dalawang nilalang na iyon na nagkuta na talaga sa terrace the moment na umakyat silang dalawa and she had been successful in being true to those words for all of the first 10 minutes after she made that statement to herself. Byt the time kasi na napapayag na ni Josh si Barbie na sumayaw, Bea found herself looking up covertly once again to look at Angelo and Alexis. And she had found herself subciously repeating that action every other minute or so.
For some reason, she found herself not liking what she’s seeing. Naiirita siya. Sure it looked like they were just talking, albeit quite closely, but they really were just talking. At oo na, they looked quite sweet while at it, like they were in their own little world. But that shouldn’t bother her. After all, there’s nothing between her and Angelo. More importantly, she doesn’t feel anything for Angelo.
But it is the fact na apektado siya sa nakikita niya na ikinaiirita niya lalo. She knew she shouldn’t be affected pero hindi niya mapigilan ang sarili niya. She didn’t like what she was seeing. And more importantly, she didn’t like that she didn’t like what she’s seeing.
Kaya naman the moment na inaya siya ni Rick na sumali sa grupo ng mga ito, she immediately said yes and joined their group, hoping that Rick, or his friends, could pose enough distraction para hindi na niya lingunin ang dalawang nilalang na iyon sa terrace. It worked too, for about 10 minutes or so again until napansin niya ang sarili niya na lumilingon na naman sa gawi nina Angelo.
And from what she saw, mukhang wala na ngang pakialam ang dalawang ito sa nga kasama nilang pumunta sa club na iyon. She certainly wasn’t expecting that noong imbitahan pareho siya nina Josh at Angelo na sumama ng gabing iyon. Ayaw sana niyang sumama but both guys were so insistent na napapayag din siya. Iyon pala pumunta lang siya roon para ignorahin.
She really should have just stayed home. Mas nag-eenjoy pa siguro siya kung sina Aling Ruby at Mang Wally na lang ang kasama niya para sa gabing iyon.
That was the recurring thought in her head as she picked up the God-knows-what-number-of bottle and put it to her lips.
The alcohol worked actually. Hindi na niya napapansin sina Angelo at Alexis. It worked a little too well nga lang dahil wala na siyang kahit anong napapansin sa paligid niya. Everything was blurry, even the bottle she was holding and she was feeling numb and slightly dizzy. May sinasabi sa kanya si Rick at ang isa sa mga kaibigan nito pero hindi na niya naiintindihan ang mga ito. She just kept on nodding and smiling.
But before the bottle could reach her lips, it was taken away from her grasp. The next thing she knew, there was a firm grasp on her wrist and on her side. She could smell the scent of the guy holding her. The scent is familiar pero hindi niya iyon ma-identify. Basta ang alam niya, she’s torn between being annoyed at whoever the guy is for taking the bottle away from her or feeling euphoric when she felt that sturdy presence next to her. She could hear him saying something and he sounded angry.
But all she had in mind was that the sound of his voice sounded so good to her ears.

“Bea, that’s enough,” Angelo said sternly the moment na naabot niya ang kinaroroonan ng babae. He was lucky enough to reach her bago pa man maiangat ng babae sa kanyang mga labi ang panibagong bote ng beer na inabot sa kanya ni Rick.
He not only disliked the fact that she was drinking that much but also how Rick and his gang looked as she drank that much. They were having fun while watching her at it. And some part of him is deeply worried of what might happen next kung wala siya para pigilan ang babae.
He heard her groan her disapproval of his interference but he stood his ground. Akala nga niya ay magagalit ang babae sa kanya, or worse, magwawala, nang lingunin siya nito but Bea ended up smiling nang lumingon ito. He even thought she gave an approving sound nang alalayan niya ito at hawakan sa baywang.
Rick, though, didn’t look pleased with his appearance, most especially with his interference.
“Pare, nag-eenjoy lang kami dito,” ani pa nito na napatayo din nang alalayan niya si Bea sa mga paa nito.
Angelo, though, was not in the mood to make small talk with the guy or any of his peers kahit pa napatayo rin ang mga ito.
“Nag-eenjoy ka siguro but I don’t think Bea is,” aniya. His voice was calm and friendly pero hindi maikakaila ang seriousness sa boses at mga mata niya. “I think she stopped enjoying herself by the third bottle.”
Rick obviously reeled back sa sinabi niya. Maybe the guy wasn’t expecting anyone to notice them, or maybe the guy thought he wouldn’t interfere but then, a couple of seconds later, the guy dropped the offended stance. Maybe kasi alam nito na seryoso siya, or maybe because hindi naman ito makakakontra talaga, or maybe it had something to do with the sudden appearance of Alden and Kris with Aya and Alexis not to far from his back with Josh closing in with Barbie with all three guys looking pretty serious in backing him up.
“Ako na ang bahala sa kanya. Ihahatid ko na lang siya sa kanila,” Rick stated diplomatically.
“She’s staying with me,” simpleng sagot ni Angelo. “I will take her home.”
The statement took Rick, and Alexis, aback. After all, never nilang sinabi na sa iisang bubong sila ni Bea nakatira. The rest of their group, of course, are already aware of it.
He was able to steer Bea away from the guy without further inquiries, especially since Rick looked like he had not even expected to hear anything close to what he just said. The guy actually froze.
Alerxis though, was a different issue.
“Angelo, san ka pupunta?” she asked the moment natapat sila ni Bea sa mga ito. Most of the woman’s weight, as well as her head, was already on him by that time. Bea looked really close to passing out if she hadn’t already.
“I’m taking Bea home,” sagot na lang niya bago lumingon sa iba pang mga kasama, Josh and Barbie by that time had joined the group.
“Sama na ako sa inyo,” ani Barbie na halatang-halata ang pag-aalala sa mukha. “I’m sorry,” she even said as she tried to take Bea’s other arm to put over her shoulders.
“No, it’s okay,” he smiled and it was the truth. He doesn’t blame the woman for what happened to Bea. If anything, he would be blaming himself.
After all, Barbie is there to enjoy herself, with Josh as a very good distraction, but he was supposed to look after Bea, Bea and Barbie actually, dahil siya naman ang nagpilit talaga sa mga ito na sumama. Hindi niya pagbibintangan ang babae for leaving Bea alone when he himself had done exactly that.
“Seriously,” he insisted. “Sina Josh na ang bahala sa inyo,” dagdag pa niya as he nodded appreciatively at Joy who looked really concerned next to Kris.
“Pero Angelo,” Alexis started. “Don’t tell me you’re leaving….” she said.
“Sorry,” ani na lang niya sa babae. “Si Alden na lang ang maghahatid sa’yo,” dagdag pa niya as he looked at Alden. The guy nodded understandingly.
Alexis couldn’t say anything else and he didn’t even bother waiting to see if she has something to say.
Sumama ang grupo nilang iyon, maliban na ang natigilang si Alexis at si Alden, hanggang sa sasakyan niya sa parking lot. Part of him knew that the others would be leaving really soon after them too pero hindi na siya nagtagal pa doon para antayin sila.
He needed to get Bea home.

He found himself only finally being able to breathe freely the moment na nakita niya si Bea sa kama nito, changed into a more comfortable set of clothes courtesy of course ni Aling Ruby. Nakatulog na ang babae.
Actually, kanina pa ito malamang nahimbing sa kanyang pagtulog, hindi nga lang niya agad nakita dahil matapos itong tulungan ni Aling Ruby na magpalit, thankfully, Bea wasn’t too drunk to not recognize her room or the older woman helping her, hinila siya ni Aling Ruby sa sala at doon sinermunan.
Well, not so much as sinermunan really, just that he heard a few choice words from the older lady, some of those words being the very ones he had been telling himself on their way back to the house. Bea had by then laid her head against the sidemirror and promptly fell asleep.
“Ano na lang nkapag nalaman ng daddy ni Bea na inuwi mo siya na nasa ganitong estado?” Aling Ruby had said. “Worse, ano na lang kapag ang lola mo ang nakaalam? Mukha namang hindi ka lasing, ano’t si Bea ay parang nagpakalango-lango sa alak? Dapat man lang ay pinigilan mo siya!”
Tama naman si Aling Ruby kung tutuusin. Whether or not kinikilala nila ni Bea ang kasunduan ng daddy nito sa lola niya is not the issue there. It’s the fact na kahit pa hindi nila kinikilala ang kasunduang iyon, Bea remains to be under his care as long as she’s staying in that house and even more so dahil kasama siya sa paglabas na iyon.
Buti na nga lang at walang talagang nangyari bago niya naabutan ang babae. The worst result that could occur now will be Bea having a really splitting headache by the time she wakes up. The girl would certainly not like that.
Nangingiti na siya nang hilain niya pasara ang pinto sa kuwarto ng babae pero nakakailang hakbang palang siya nang may katanungang pumasok sa isip niya na hindi man lang niya naisip tanungin kanina.
Bakit nga ba biglang naglasing si Bea?
