Chapter 27: Officially

“I’m going to guess you two had a lot of interesting things to talk about and do in that elevator box,” Matsumoto Masayuki said the moment the elevator door finally opened in front of him to reveal his son with a woman he’s seen the picture of for more than just a couple of times.

He had been waiting at the ground floor of MSMT for a little over 15 minutes now actually. He went there because he heard that Jun went back to pick up some things and he thought that they needed to have a father-son talk. But when he saw the elevator getting stuck in between floors not only once but twice, he got curious, especially since he was told it was stopped manually and there were no calls for help from that particular box. And so he waited. And that’s what he saw.

Hiro told him that the woman is important to Jun’s life. Nakai said she was someone Jun seemed to have taken particular interest in. But it was actually what Nanako had said that caught his attention. His daughter-in-law told him that she could be the reason for Jun to finally stay in Japan for good.

The moment he saw her picture, those eyes and that sweet smile, he had already decided that he liked her for his middle son. He didn’t even bother checking out the profile Nakai had prepared on the woman. All he needed was her picture and her name.

Inoue Mao. Matsumoto Mao. It sounds about right in his ears.

He couldn’t care less of her background. That was something he knew Jun or any of his sons would be smart enough to consider. And he had actually decided not to interfere. But as a man not getting any younger, one who’s responsibilities to the company he owns is slowly being transferred to his sons, he was getting a little restless, even after finding out that Jun had had his beach house cleaned. He still hadn’t introduced her personally to him.

So when his brother-in-law, Gussan, told him that he was stopping by the London office before he goes surfing or whatever it is he wants to do, he knew that he needed to make a move. He needed to make his son move. It turned out that Gussan thought so too and was just waiting for him to say something so as not to supersede position.

And seeing Jun’s hand entwined with the hand of the woman he can now easily recognize as Inoue Mao, he couldn’t help but grin. Things finally did speed along.

What he didn’t expect though was to see Inoue Mao suddenly flushing red as even his own son seemed to blush lightly. He was just about to think that it was just because they weren’t expecting to see him but then he noticed that Jun’s lips was also reddish, the same shade of Inoue Mao’s lipstick, and that the hair to Jun’s nape was disturbed.

He ended up grinning. Jun and he didn’t need a talk after all.

“So, is there anything you two would like to tell me?” Masayuki asked still with that grin.

“Ah… Uhm…. Dad,” Jun stuttered as he removed his hand from Mao’s before putting an arm over her shoulder. “Meet Mao, my girlfriend.”

‘Finally!’ was the first thought in Masayuki’s head.

“You know, I realized that I wasn’t really the most imaginative guy on the block,” Shun suddenly seriously declared as he stretched out his legs at the sofa set in Jun’s office.

The guy wasn’t talking to anyone in particular but there are two possible guys in the room who could easily answer him. The occupant of that office, Jun, and Jun’s cousin, Kame.

It was Jun, who was still busy signing a stack of papers he had just finished reading, who asked “What do you mean?”

“In terms of dating,” Shun clarified as he and Kame shared a knowing smirk. “I mean, I know I’m one of Tokyo’s most eligible bachelors and all but I’m not really very imaginative when it comes to dating places. I mean I know restaurants, parks, and rides, but the elevator? I never even thought of that!”

As Kame grinned approvingly and Jun starting to shake his head, Shun continued “I mean, I’ve always just thought of elevators as a means of transportation from one floor to another.”--“You could do a quickie,” Kame interjected greenly.--“But really, I never thought that an elevator would be a good place for confessions or proposals.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Jun simply snorted without even raising his head to meet the two men’s teasing eyes.

“He’s right,” Kame replied. “Changed or not, you still are the master of these kinds of things. Even I never thought that I’d enter the elevator unattached and come out of it with a girlfriend! You stopped the box for 30 minutes in between floors just so the two of you could talk?!”

“It was around 15 minutes, not half an hour,” Jun replied, finally raising is head. “Is that why you’re suddenly here? And who told you about that?” he asked in amusement.

Kame grinned. “Nakai-kun dropped by the club earlier to provide me a copy of the financial statements. And he also told me about your highly entertaining and highly educational anecdote.”

“Likewise,” Shun added.

“So that was really true?!” Kame exclaimed when Jun simply shook his head in amazement. “All of it?”

Jun shook his head lightly. “He failed to tell you something,” he said coyly. He was in a really good mood.

“What?” Shun and Kame asked.

Before Jun could open his mouth in response, the door suddenly opened and in came Meisa still looking very stunning even in plain clothes.

“He didn’t tell you the part that says Matsumoto Masayuki-san was outside the elevator when Jun and Mao-chan finally decided to end their elevator meeting,” she declared.

As Kame and Shun looked from Meisa to Jun, more like gaping on Meisa’s part actually, Jun couldn’t help but shake his head lightly and smile.

He could still remember how surprised and taken aback he was the moment the elevator door opened on the ground floor and he found his father standing right outside the elevator.

“Really?”

“He was there?!”

Jun simply shrugged in response before he let out a small laugh. Just as Kame and Shun let out their own guffaws, he turned to Meisa and asked

“So, other than revealing to these two the story of my life yesterday, what are you doing here Meisa?”

Meisa turned to him, her hand clutching her chest as though offended by what he just said.

“You’re just one day into your new found relationship and all of a sudden I’m of no use to you anymore?” she asked in a rather pained tone before she caught Jun’s eyes and they ended up laughing. “I dropped by to congratulate you and Mao-chan. I just came by her cubicle actually and she’s happy and glowing. Looks like you are too, so you should keep it that way.”

“So where are you heading?” Shun asked. “I mean, seeing as you just dropped by.”

“MG Towers,” Meisa shrugged. “Apparently, Matsumoto Masayuki-san entered his office this morning and suddenly decided that he wanted to have a meeting with me.”

“I thought he’d do that,” Jun chuckled.

“What do you mean?” Meisa asked.

“Well, seeing as I’m not really returning to London for good, I knew dad was going to have to give my post there away,” he told her meaningfully.

Meisa’s eyes narrowed momentarily before she ended up gaping at him.

“You mean..?”

“He told me earlier,” Jun proudly said. “You’re going to head the London branch up until you decide you don’t want to anymore, or you finally found your reason to come back here. Just don’t tell him I told you beforehand.”

Kame whistled as he and Shun stood up to shake Meisa’s hand. And then Jun went and gave her a big hug. “Congratulations!”

“Wow!” Meisa exclaimed. “I’ll be really honest when I say this isn’t in my list of expectations when I came here.”

“So, did you finish what you came here in Japan to do?” Kame asked.

Meisa turned to look at Jun meaningfully before she grinned. “Yeah, I think I did. Mission accomplished.”

“Nice,” said Shun. “Anyway, if you’re going to MG Towers, I’ll accompany you. I need to go there myself.”
-----

Shun and Meisa had just left Jun’s office when he heard Kame exclaim “Damn! That woman is really, really hot!”

“You own and manage a club Kame, you’re used to hot girls like that,” he told his cousin dismissively.

“Yeah,” Kame admitted. “But there’s just something about her I just can’t put my finger in.”

Jun chuckled as he headed back to his seat. The moment he sat down, he said “She was one of the things you passed on in London.”

“What?”

“Remember when I was still just to be sent to London?” Jun started. “Dad offered you a spot there so we could go there together. You declined the offer. Essentially, getting to know the woman was part of the things you declined to.”

Kame simply looked at him in surprise for a couple of seconds before the guy turned to the door and stared. Jun simply smiled.
-----TBC-----

so that was chapter 27!!!
to be completely honest, i really wasn't planning on this chapter to happen... really, not at all...
but after i wrote down Chapter 26, i felt like just one more chapter would make the ending a bit too hurried...
there were some things i still wanted to present and a few things i needed to clear out...
some of you might think that this chapter is really unnecessary and in some part of my mind, i would agree with you but to be honest, this chapter and the next one (which is the Epilogue already by the way) was more of a result of me being nostalgic...
you see, i've been working on this story for almost a year now (if it hadn't reached that already) and it's been the longest i've had in jotting down a fic that i wanted to atleast air everything i seriously considered for the story...

One Chance had been with me throughout this year, the only thing constant when everything around me changed... i even think i changed a bit so it kinda felt to me like a baby...

so after that sort of nostalgic rant...

what did you really think of the chapter anyway???

to everyone who's been leaving comments, i swear, one of these days, i'm going to go back to my previous chapters and reply to them... late i know but still...
to be honest, i'm only stealing a bit of time right now because i really haven't had enough of either rest or sleep lately that i shouldn't even be ranting this long....

so anyway, hope you enjoyed this and...
Comments are love!!!

@one chance, **multi-chaptered, fanfic
