TV: Royal Pains | TV: Necessary Roughness

SPOILERS for the USA premieres tonight.

I've never been into medical shows, but this one has always been the exception. I was drawn to it from the start, and I'm thrilled to have it back. Hank's such a MacGyver, and it's fun watching him dive right into these medical emergencies and always having a solution for them. The really cool stuff though, is the looks into the lives of his patients/friends. Ms. Newburg is fricking hysterical, being the pseudo!mom for Hank and Evan, so much that Hank tells Boris that he'll pay any amount in rent to get out of her place and back into Boris' guest house.

Boris and his many troubles has always been one of my favorite subplots, and I was glad to see that he's going to be around again this season. That, and I was happy to see him owning up to his assholery from last season in shoving Hank and Marisa both out of his life after he found out that Marisa was pregnant. Very fun.

Evan... is Evan. Watching him fret over Paige wasn't the most entertaining part of the show, but then, Evan wouldn't be Evan if he wasn't, I suppose. Divya's plotline, on the other hand, was very interesting. It was sad, watching her try to make amends with her parents, and then watching it all blow up in her face because while she's changed, they haven't. Will be interested to see where it goes, especially now that it looks like she's going to be bunking at the guest house with Hank and Evan.

I like what I've seen so far. It has a kind of similar feel to Royal Pains, but Danni doesn't quite have the magic touch that Hank has. Then again, Hank's healing mostly physical things, while Danni goes much deeper, and there's no quick fix for what she specializes in.

The whole 'family falling apart' subplot was intriguing. Danni's ex-husband is a douchebag with no redeeming qualities, so I wonder how this will be handled. By having him be that, it can get old really fast if not handled properly. Still, scumbag.

The show's caught my interest, so I think I'll keep watching it to see how it goes.
