I'm working on reconstructing an old out of print board game based on Dune. I need to figure out what's the best look for some of these cards. I want to try and have them look better than amateur, and maintain a consistent look

I like caps on the Leader / Traitor cards, and the Location card, but I prefer small caps on the Item card. As for enclosing the item description, perhaps a lighter background box without the glowing border?
The ally cards - how essential is the faction color for these cards? If it's important, then I say keep it.
I prefer lower case for the titles of cards and all caps for subtitles such as "BENE GESSERIT".
I like the design of the 3rd row of treachery cards. I can't really decide if I prefer all caps or not on those.
Keep the faction circle color for the ally cards if there is some vital association between those cards and the faction. Like, if only the Bene Gesserit (I know nothing about Dune) can use the card "Ally to the Bene Gesserit" or it would only be useful for them, then keep the color circle. It makes association between the cards easier.
For the Snooper card you could shorten "This card can be used as a defense in battle plan" with a symbol of some sort.
To add on Danimo's color circle suggestion, the circle could be used to point out it's a Bene Gesserit ally. The card literally only needs the following on it: Ally, the color circle, the gametext.
Also the wording on it is just weird. "Can be used as a defense in battle plan" is confusing me a little (and also reminding me of several designer fights on syntax). If it's got a defense icon on it, do you need to mention it can be used on defense?
"Defends leader against poison weapons during battle plan" (or someting similar) is an easier way to say that since we know it's only useable on defense cause of the symbol and Poison Defense.
Caps on the Leader/Traitor/Location Cards, no "Of The", Lowercase on the Item Card, and I like the faction circles.
The hardest decision is the item cards, but I'm trending towards what you posted in response to Blurry, just with lowercase titles for the Item/Treachery Cards.

For caps, would it be better to be consistent across all the cards? Caps-wise?
For the background thing, oh that's an interesting idea. Still have the glow for the picture though? Like...

I tend to use color + name to emphasize the theming and character.

Don't need the "of the".
Prefer the non-glow item descriptions on the darker background.
Faction circle is a good idea.
