One Sunday in Edmonds : Hot Chocolate and Peace Activists

Jan 22, 2008 20:44

Edmonds used to be a small quiet community mostly populated by senior citizens.   As with most areas surrounding Seattle--we've grown.   Housing prices rose and the upper middle class  moved in.  Edmonds is now a destination place.   Yes, we have a Starbucks.  No, I don't go to Starbucks.  I do, however, go to other coffee shops.

Walnut Street Coffee is a new favorite place to visit.  They always have a cream cheese frosted cupcake :)  More importantly, they make a mean hot chocolate.

I can think of nothing better than an orange cupcake.

I see these women holding peace signs at the ferry dock every Sunday.  They are committed.

"Support Our Troops" men sit across the street holding their signs.  I have never doubted the support these "Women for Peace" have for the troops.  When I snapped a picture of the "Support Our Troops" men, one gave a loud "Oorah!"  which I thought meant "Let's kill", but I looked it up and found it may have many meanings from : approval to fuck you, so I'm not sure what he meant by it.  I beleive it's a Marine or Navy cry--I was in the Air Force for like ten minutes so I haven't a clue. In any case, I smiled at him.

As I was exiting Walnut Street Coffee, the women peace keepers were entering.  I happily held the door for them.  We exchanged smiles and I couldn't help but look into their eyes as they passed by me.  I have a deep respect for these women.   They are so much more than simple "little old ladies"--as I often hear them being referred to as.  They are mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends, and women who care enough to stand in frigid temperatures and hold a sign for Peace.  They care.  They're involved.  Peace.  Peace.  Peace.  It's a beautiful word.

Puget Sound is always here.  Light, water, reflection...emotion.

...and then there is that ferry.  I never get tired of this ferry.   Sometime I get tired of that guy in the picture, but often times he can be very likeable.
