Yesterday was an insanely long day. Because I'm required to attend a school board meeting, I went yesterday with the bilingual girls. It was the worst experience of my entire life and I was in Elgin for 14 hours because of it. Here are the most horrifying parts:
1. The minute the meeting started one of the board members took the microphone and explained "Before you get things started I just want to let you know that I tender my resignation effective immediately for professional reasons. They just thanked him for his work and he walked out. It was so tense and horrible.
2. Then, while they were recognizing important people and winning teams, they asked all of the ISU student teachers to stand up and be recognized. The even welcomed us into the "U-46 family".
3. The worst part was when they invited the public to speak. Apparently there is a deaf/hard of hearing program that is getting shut down in the district. People kept bringing their children up to the board and crying and begging for the program to stay. They kept saying things like "this is the face of the kids you are hurting by taking away their program" and "do you want to explain to my child why I have to take her away from her friends and her NIA family?" I wanted to cry the entire time.
Moral of the story: I'm pretty sure my district is evil and I must get out ASAP.
