US Politics

Today at Uni some of my friends were discussing US coming elections and I heard one of them say

"...Bush is the democrat..."

"What?" I interrupted. "Are you kidding? He is not democrat he is republican!" (my vehemency comes after reading some very pro-democrat and pro-republican entries around. I thought about what would you all say in front of that mistake)

Then she said. "Oh. But Republicans are the left sided politicians right?"

Again, I looked at her. "You really need to catch up with US poltics," I said. "Republicans? Left? They are more conservative."

That left me with a question to ask, though. Maybe some of you interested in politics can answer it for me.

What are the differences between Republicans and Democrats? I know there must be a lot. But you see, here in my country we have conservative people, democrats and also socialists and even a communist party (small, but still there) so there are more clear differences between them.

*waves at Pamela in case she ever reads this*
