Today is my birthday, as well as the first day of my five-day course on common chronic illnesses.
The journey to the institude I was to attend the course at was pretty horrendous. It's kind of located on a small mountain, pretty much untamed jungles and all...
The jungle opposite the institude. Taken from an overhead bridge over an expressway.
Okay it's not really that bad. The thing is that it's too far away from the train stations to walk, which I kind of wanted to do after waiting and trying to squeeze onto a bus heading there for like 20 minutes? It's rather scary since the institude has more than 10 000 students and most of them are taking the transport to school from the bus stop. Everyone just gushes to the bus entrance when it arrives.
The map they gave us was not informative at all, probably inaccurate... Even a generally good map reader like me can't really understand it. So some of my coursemates and I had to wander around for some time before we got to the venue. We started off introducing ourselves etc etc. The teacher was quite the drama queen :D Should have joined the actig industry instead.
We started off learning the causes of Hypertension (which is not very exciting and I shall not focus on it) then we went for the 'Dialogue in the Dark'. 'Dialogue in the Dark' is where normal people like us who can see very well and everything to experience being blind. We will be taken on a tour in a completely lightless room, guided by an experienced visually impaired guide. It's really interesting, and probably a lot easier than what the visually impaired experience on a daily basis.. (I think kunshi-san will be really interested in this. You should try if you happen to come to Singapore.)
After that, we did some practical. We learnt how to measure a patient's respiration, pulse rate, blood pressure and blood glucose level. Basic but important medical stuff :)
That's the end for Day 1. After the lesson, I went to collect and pay for my Maybelline bb cream from an online seller. Who turned out to be one of my level mate from Primary School :D Singapore is real small. Then my friend made lovely handmade assessory of Niou and Yagyuu.
And that's about all~ Off to sleep now. Good night~
