Serious Things

Even though it's quite early to be thinking about it, I wasn't really planning on doing anything during the summer. But today I went to an informational session about "summer abroad" programs that CCA has. The particular one that I looked at was one in New York City. Technically it's not abroad, but still, it's pretty far away.

Basically, seventeen students spend three weeks in an area of Brooklyn, and they work on studio projects, visit museums and artists, and a whole bunch of other things. It's more for graduate students, but six undergraduates can go as well, and it counts for three credits.

On one hand, it sounds really amazing. It's always been a vague half-realized dream of mine to live and work in New York. And obviously the art scene in NY is awesome, so I'll learn a lot from different artists. And maybe I can even go down to Allentown one weekend and see people.

The only problem is that it's going to be expensive. The students have to find their own housing, and at the end all the art has to be shipped back home properly, and then there's the issue of how the tuition for these summer programs is the same as the preceding academic year... I don't want to spend more money on classes then I have to. I've already planned out how many classes I need to take each semester so that I graduate on time as a full time student.

I would like to go... but I could choose to go next year... or I could choose to spend a semester abroad in a country... but do I want to go to Spain or Japan? >.>;; So conflicted. I should really talk to my advisor...
