Let's plan comic con!

Jul 29, 2012 20:44

A few days ago I mentioned an intent to go to Comic Con no matter what.  Now there are a ton of people who also want to go and this is going to require some planning/coordination to make sure it all goes as planned.  We need to figure out who is going to be part of "the group" and who is just gonna be like "hey I'll see ya there mebbe" so that nobody gets left out.

Being part of "the group" means we are gonna probably all share a room and coordinate ticket buying together.  Please comment here on if you're going to coordinate with us or just wing it on your own.

So far this is who is going...

Me!
IAmSteamgirl
HarmonyHelms
Rinienne + husband

And those who expressed interest in going, but haven't really confirmed one way or the other...

DazedRose
JazzyBonesJones
Kyrstalicekitsu

And below the cut are my thoughts on how to coordinate all this:

Getting Tickets

It's ridiculously hard to get tickets for comic con.  It's first come first serve and a few years ago the site crashed under the weight of people trying to get tickets.

The nerdiest convention in the world couldn't keep it's servers up under the crush of people!

The past couple years they've switched to a system where you wait in a virtual line.  You get assigned a number and when you're number is up you can buy a limited amount of tickets.  So my idea is that we all try and just count on having to buy a ticket for somebody else in our group who is too far back in line to get one.  This will increase our chances of all getting to all go together.  It does, however, present the problem of the people further up in line not having enough money to buy more tickets than just their own....  so....  we'll need to talk about that...

Also, you need to understand now that you will probably be late for work/school the day tickets go on sale.  They almost always sell out in less than an hour.  So just...  plan ahead.

So how will we know when this magical day will come where we all come down with a case of Geekitis?  It's... hard to say.  They don't usually give too much warning.  I knew about 24 hours in advance when resale tickets went on sale two years ago.  Your best bet is to follow @comiccon on twitter and sign up for their mailing list.  As soon as we know WHEN they will go on sale, we all need to contact each other and start pretending to cough so we can call in sick get online.  How we'll contact each other?  IDK.  I have most of your phone numbers, but I'm thinking we'll start a little mailing list or some shit so we can all scream at each other HEY OMG TICKETS GO ON SALE TOMORROW OMG OMG GET ONLINE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW etc.

Also, all of this is irrelevant to Steam Girl who gets to preregister.  Let's all stare at her and make her feel uncomfortable.

Room Share

We can probably fit 4 people in a room comfortably, maybe stretching it to 5 or 6 if we sleep on the floor/get comfy with each other in bed, but any more than that is stretching it.  HOWEVER I plan on camping out for Hall H at least once or twice and if we take turns camping out in line the room won't be nearly as crowded.  So that makes 6 people in the room super easy.  Maybe even more (but not many more).  The room essentially becomes a place to stash shit and shower between panels, which is a-ok to me.  I know for a fact that I'm going to be camping out for the Doctor Who panels and, if Supernatural is still on then (ssshhh it'll never die), I'll be there for that too.  This will make the cost of the room go down and give us a great shot and seeing all those fucking amazing panels.

So...  who's in???
