Marvel Round-Up and Secret Santa

Nov 15, 2010 21:32

Well, I signed up for the Cap/Ironman Secret Santa/Midwinter Exchange.  I just received the prompts and I'm going "........" as my mind draws a blank.  Oddly enough my receiver didn't specify whether or not they wanted a fic or an art piece...but judging from the details of the prompt...I would assume I'll be writing a fic.  Though I'm debating whether or not to do something special [waggles eyebrows].  I have no idea who this is for, so hopefully I can do one of the prompts justice. 1K is not all that hard...but I think in order to to any of this justice I may write more...or if my master plan pans out...I'll need to start scripting.  Actually I should probably do a test...since [censor program] is giving me grief...

I feel sorry for anyone who landed my prompts.  Two of them would be challenging to do without going over 1000 words...but the third could be done rather nicely. =^..^= of course Inoshi didn't plan it that way to manipulate prompt selection....Bwhahaha  I have a feeling whoever does get my prompts would probably guess it's me considering I emoticon my writing to death 8D force of habit.

...Anyways...

Soooo...apparently I can not escape from all that is Marvel for long...especially when two bi-monthly's that I follow have come out last week.  Now where should I start...or more precisely, what do you guys who bother reading my ramble actually care about?  [peers at comics]

Well, I'm going to start with one that left me most impressed and that would be Spider-Man #648.  So after suffering all that was BND, OMD, OMIT and all that was the Spider-Man creative team for the past...what was it...almost a year or more?  This marked the launch of Pete's new eh...series?  chapter?  Whatever you want to call it....with the name "Big Time."  Here we see Spidey being a part of the Avengers and well being awesome.  Colored me surprised that a writer actually remembers Spidey is supposed to be smart.  [grins] I can't say I know much about the different runs with Spidey....but from what I hear Dan Slotts is excellent.  I agree...I loved this issue...and it's a good place for me to jump back on.

So this issue essentially gives us the status quo of Peter Parker.  He's got a new girlfriend, teamed with the Avengers, his aunt is married to JJS (thus cousins by marriage to Jameson Jr.), he's out of work and he needs a new place to live (but don't worry that gets resolved at the end).  Now for you Avengers fans may ask...can't he just live with the Avengers?  Why, yes, Petey...being on two teams you can either pick the Tower or Mansion...but alas we get the argument that not ALL the Avengers know his identity and the FF is currently in space...so he's homeless.

Hmmm, correct me if I'm wrong Marvel, but I'm pretty sure the NEW Avengers know who Peter is considering he unmasked to them.  But okay, lets play it your way...since I guess Strange is now part of the New Avengers and so is Carol...maybe Mockingbird...so what, three people max you have to avoid...assuming they also live at the Mansion.  The place is huge...I doubt Luke would have a problem if Peter wanted to take a spare room out of the 300+ there so....yeah as far as NA...I don't buy it.  The regular Tower...yeah I can see how that would be difficult, but the Mansion...especially if you explain you want to keep your secret I.D. [nod nod]  They'd work something out...knowing Tony...I'm sure he built every room with it's own bathroom and whatnot.

Where was I?  Ah yes...the issue...so...^_^ I'm looking forward to next issue.  I'm curious about Peter's new job and what that'll be like.  Unfortunately for those of you who were reading Shadowland...heh way to spoil it Marvel.  Almost as bad as the Steve's Reborn slip-up...  On the bright side...my inner Johnny/Peter is happy <3...go Johnny for remembering Petey is smart!

Okay up next is Iron Man By Design. Usually, I don't buy into the comics that just seem to want to leech your wallet.  But dang it if I am a Tony fan and well....I like it.  There is no story, just pretty much pretty pictures of the armor done in several different styles ranging from Steampunk to Medieval to Ancient Rome...yes it's an art book with explanations of what each style is and who the artist is.  Apparently from what I get, these are all taken from Variant Covers of other comics...and I love it.  What a great inspiration source for fanfic <3  One of my favs has to be the Ancient Egypt one...I'll see if I can post some scans later down the line.  Some of the designs are ridiculous, but others are pretty eye-candy.  Too bad they don't show Tony w/o the helmet D8 I would have killed for that.

Avengers Children Crusade # 3.  Damn you Marvel for making this bi-monthly!  Put Steve back in the Cap suit...!@#$% Bucky and the whole Commander Rogers thing [whines].  I forgot how much I actually like seeing Steve in the old uniform and being called "Cap."  I can't tell you how...weird it is reading comics with Bucky!Cap and having other characters use the term "Cap" to refer to Bucky.  D8 I can't tell you how many times I have to go wait...who?  Why can't you call Bucky "C.A." if you want to shorten it.  Heck "Buck" works fine too I think...alas...

Going back on track, the issue seemed to drag a bit at first...it's almost like you want to say "Enough more blowing up!" but at least it picks up towards the end of the issue.  Did I mention how much I love Wiccan aka Billy?  His relationship with Teddy is exactly the kind my Steve/Tony canon has....it just works <3  Again I curse Marvel's bi-monthly-ness...and I have to wonder exactly WHEN the rest of the MU will catch up to the same time period this comic is supposedly taking place.  Actually it makes me question exactly how long this "Commander Rogers" thing will last too.  It's weird feeling so formal with Steve.  BACK ON TOPIC.

So...Doom and Wanda...oh dears...and Wolvering being...harsher then usual persay...at least towards Billy.  Also interesting to note Logan called Steve out on his past feelings for Wanda....Oooow.  Still, for someone who used to freaking lead 3 Avengers team and was all top-cop...you sure are taking a lot of lip.  If I didn't know better...it's almost like Civil War and all the mess following didn't happen and this took place right when the New Avengers had just formed.  It would have actually made sense if that's the case...would explain why Tony and Steve are in their old costumes...but thanks to Bendis' timeline and the beginning of this series we know it takes place after Siege.  Maybe we'll get answers once that whole point thing Marvel is doing comes into fruition in FEB.

Moving on to Avengers Prime #4.  You know, I could have sworn that this thing was only supposed to be 4 issues long but it turned out to be 5....and we have to wait till JAN. to see what the heck will happen.  [headesk]  Seriously, Bendis...I understand you are writing all these other issues, but for something that is supposed to happen before the Heroic Age...this is taking to long for Steve and Thor to make up with Tony.  The "guy talk" made me lawl because poor Tony...I can only imagine what he's thinking through all of this.  The guy pretty much just woke up, read about all the crap that's happened and is stuck in a parallel dimension with two people he respects so very much and KNOWS are very ticked at him.  I'd be D8 too...

The art was very good in this issue.  The adorableness between the three of them and just the cute smiles make the issue worth it.  Though...I question Tony's repulsor Canon since by the very design his hand should have been vaporized but hey...megaman look all around then.  I do have a question though...how does a giant arse dragon get the sneak on you?  Seriously, the guys look so surprised when big ol'green appears out of nowhere with a bunch of trolls...you's think they make some noise.  Guess the male bonding moment was just too epic XD

On the upside, Tony finally got some weapons.  Throwing knives, a broad sword and his handy canon.  Guess this was a way to make up for the naked horse riding.  I'm looking forward to more Steve/Tony in the last issue hopefully.

Finally we got Iron Man/Thor: God Complex #1.  The team-up I was really looking forward to besides the Spidey and Ironman one.  I'm not sure if it's because I'm lacking Thor knowledge or what, but I didn't find issue one all that interesting.  One thing to note is Tony's facial hair magically went back into a mustache...but hey.  It's also the first time I recall Tony calling Steve "Commander Rogers".  To be honest I think it was Tony being snarky since they call each other by their first names later on.  Actually, it sort of makes me wonder about something.  Has everyone always called Tony...er "Tony?"  If I recall, I'm pretty sure "Iron Man" is what was supposed to be used on th field but I've notice the use of "Tony."  I guess it's better then using "Stark" I suppose...but I was just curious.

Hopefully as the series continues it'll be more entertaining.  I know I am looking forward to the Avengers #7 and Thunderbolts #150 this week.
