Spending Monday in Dillon, TX

Happy Halloween! It's not my favorite holiday, but I'm at least wearing my pumpkin earrings today.

I've probably said this before, but Friday Night Lights is totally my new Everwood. It makes me cry every freaking week! However, "Damn you, Peter Berg!" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "Damn you, Berlanti!"

The good news is that FNL scored season-high ratings in its temporary move to the Monday 10/9c timeslot. Granted, CSI: Miami was a rerun, but I still think it benefitted from the Heroes lead-in. Besides, going up against CSI:M and the relatively weak What About Brian still seems like a better option than battling Dancing with the Stars, NCIS, Gilmore Girls, and whatever is on FOX.

As always, there was a lot to love about this episode. Unfortunately, Lyla Garrity was not one of them. I've never been a big Lyla fan, but every week I seem to like her less and less. The fact that she tried to make Riggins feel guilty was absurd. Yes, he's sleeping with his paralyzed best friend's girlfriend. Yes, it's wrong--but it goes both ways. She, after all, is sleeping with her paralyzed boyfriend's best friend. And how sweet was Riggins when she showed up at his house, pulling out the stool and offering her part of his breakfast? He just looked so hopeful. And if having Lyla around means we get to see Tim shirtless, I guess it's not all bad. :) I also wanted to slap her when she was talking about college, and Jason going to Notre Dame, and how she would probably take classes at St. Mary's. Not that St. Mary's isn't a good school, but why couldn't she go to ND? They do accept females there, y'know.

Fortunately, the entire Taylor family is still awesome. I love the relationship between Eric and Tami, and Julie is great. How funny was it when Tami stuffed the napkin down her bra, and told Eric he could forage for it later?

As painful as it was to watch, I understood why Coach Taylor decided to start Voodoo. Getting the win was important, and he thought Voodoo gave them the best chance. Still, I was thrilled when he yanked him for his bullshit and let Matt Saracen take over. The look on Taylor's face when they were going for two was priceless. And how cute was it when Matt got up the next morning and grinned over his bruises?

I also enjoyed the Tyra storyline, even though it felt very separated from the rest of the episode. I can't help thinking that we haven't seen the last of Connor (who kind of had a Michael Vartan thing working, incidentally).

The most powerful scene of the night, though, was when the whole team came to see Jason at the rehab facility. I totally teared up when Riggins came through the door, lost control for a moment, and then composed himself before going to Jason. Very well played. (And if there are any Tim/Jason slashers out there, I'm sure they were squeeing at the hand-holding.)

I hated the look of defeat on Coach Taylor's face when he found out they were being investigated for recruiting violations. I knew the Voodoo thing would eventually bite him in the ass, but it still hurt to see. Damn Buddy Garrity.

I'm still enjoying Heroes, although I'm no longer sure who's good or bad. I love Hiro and Ando best, though.

New Veronica Mars tonight! Although monimala is making me watch it by myself. :(
