I almost didn't buy "Brave & The Bold" #7, because I saw Powergirl and Wonderwoman on the cover and thought I that I wasn't really very interested in either of those characters. But I just finished reading the thing, and I'm so very glad that I made the purchase...
Prof Haley puts sticky notes in the Book of Destiny. PROF HALEY PUTS STICKY NOTES IN THE BOOK. OF. DESTINY!! And then the Challs go off to save humans from endangered species. There are not enough "Sqees" in the realm of capslock to convey my fangirlish nirvana. Not only has Mark Waid brought the Challengers of the Unknown back, but he has made them awesome.
When the boys showed up in the last issue, I was shocked and ecstatic to see them, but I only expected it to be a one-time deal. Now, he's even brought June in and is preparing to make them germaine to whatever arc he's plotting. Those of you who may remember back to my "fandom exctinction" post, may remember that I mentioned these silver-age guys as a fond memory that I never even expected to even see references to again. Now they are back and are given the treatment of important side-characters. I'm just so, so happy about it.
I'm also shocked that Didio permitted it. Normally, he only allows cool characters to come back in order to be botched or killed. Yet, I don't fear jinxing myself with that statement because they haven't been botched, and the nature of their return makes them unlikely to be killed.
If I had a scanner, I'd totally make a Challengers icon right now.
Now the rest of you are probably wondering about the rest of the issue (considering that I've only been fangirling about the last 2 pages). The Powergirl and Wonderwoman stuff is really good. The art is lovely and they have an interesting dynamic with Powergirl being the fists-blazing type, while Diana trying to be the cool-headed one. Her thing is that she can't seem to get PG to listen to her.
Anyway, Brave and the Bold. Pure awesomeness. I encourage ya'll to add it to your pull-lists. That is all.
