Tim Drake: Heterosexual Teen with Borderline Asexual Tendencies?

So there's some major hoopla going on over at Tumblr after Red Robin #23.

A lot of talk about fangirl's tendency to view Tim as gay vs. Fabian Nicieza's plan to throw several women in Tim's direction all at once and make him something of an accidental player (and a straight one at that).

He goes to see his friends--who have been to Hell and back with him--and when they pretend to give him angry-face, he goes all still and is surprised--SURPRISED--when they drop the act and give him the group-hug of all group-hugs. SURPRISED. That tells you something about him. It may be sad to analyze exactly what it tells you about him, but it tells.

{Edit:} And while I'm at it, I'll point out that this happened not once, but twice, recently in Teen Titans, but also years ago in the later issues of Young Justice.

It kind of hints at some emotional abuse in his past.

I also think it's funny that everyone is making a big deal about his still being a virgin at 17...17 is still really young. He's still a little kid. A little kid with a lot of problems.

Precisely. Granted, I tend to think of Tim as almost-eighteen due to the One Year Later storyline and the time his sixteenth birthday canonically occurred, but that still paints him as pretty young.

And he has always been so mature in many ways, I don't see him as the sort who will rush a relationship for the sake of having one or being at a certain place in it (Not that Steph or Lynx or someone wouldn't be happy to do that for him, but I digress...). But yeah. He's got more than enough on his plate and he's always known it.
