I'm back from Naples!
I ran in the Naples 1/2 Marathon this Sunday. Nate and I ran in this race together last year, and I wanted to run in it again as part of my marathon training. Luckily, the length of the race (13.1 miles) matched with the length of my long run today, so it worked out perfectly. :o) The race was fantastic! It was mid-50's and overcast, perfect race weather! I found a girl running just ahead of me who kept a great 9-minute-mile pace, so I stayed behind her the whole race until mile 11. At that point, she seemed to slow down, so I went around her, only to find out that I had quickened my pace to an 8:30 mile. :o) I finished the race in 1 hour 58 minutes and 20 seconds, a little over 10 minutes faster than my time last year. Yay! :o) Counting the time it took me to work through the crowd to cross the start line and the 1/10th mile at the end, I ran a 9 minute mile average for the race, which is almost 2 minutes faster than I've been training for the marathon. I'm so pumped! :o)
We stopped at Smoothie King before hitting the road!
We woke up at 5 am to get to the start line and pick up my timing chip...
A few pre-race photos (I doubled some photos, b/c I changed the exposure so you can see the start line banner behind me) :o)
Here I am rounding mile 12
And I'm done!
After the race, I got cleaned up and we headed to the outlet mall before heading home :o)
