Yesterday Riley attempted to burn my house down. Not really. But kind of. I was in the shower and smelled something burning so I came running out to find smoke pouring out of the microwave. I stopped it, threw all the windows open, grabbed the bowl (with unidentifiable black charred stuff in it) out of there and threw it in the sink and started running water over it. There was 80 minutes left on the microwave so I think it had been going for maybe 15? I asked her what she was doing and she said fixing oatmeal. Oh. My. God. That means she climbed on one countertop and got the oatmeal, climbed down, climbed on the opposite couter top and got the (melamine) bowl, climbed down, put the dry oatmeal in the bowl, stuck it in the microwave and turned it on. The whole time I was trying to get a hold of the situation she was standing there crying, coughing/gagging, and saying, "Mom my eyes burn!" Yeah, no kidding kid. The fumes were absolutely noxious and I still haven't got the smell out of my house despite leaving the windows open and fans going for more than 8 hours yesterday. Needless to say, she got a very stern talking to about how she is not allowed to ever ever ever touch the microwave. Ever. Until she moves out of my house. Thinking back to it, the scene itself was kind of humerous. Like, something you would see on a tv comedy series. Did you know that melamine doesn't melt like plastic? It shatters.

While I was at work there was a fire at the gas station across the street. One of those big street sweeper trucks caught on fire while the driver was pumping diesel. He had left the engine running while he was pumping. We heard a *pop* like firecrackers, looked over and saw smoke, and freaked out. I grabbed a fire extenguisher and Jonathan took it and went running over there. They got it put out but it could have been really bad.

Then when I got home from work it took like 4 hours fro the house to cool off enough for me to go to bed. Because I had turned the ac off when I left for work and left all the windows open. It was 82 in here when I got home and i had to cool the house in 2 degree incraments b/c I didn't want to freeze our ac unit. That would be bad since our landlord was flown out by LifeStar last night so if we had to have someone come out and look at it we would have to pay our of pocket. Apparently she was walking outside and fell and broke or dislocated her hip and laid out there for 3 hours before anyone found her. She's very old and lives alone.

I also had to deal with a lot of pissed off people at work last night. One group couldn't find their cabin and that was, of course, our fault. Then a housekeeper quit on Saturday but didn't tell anyone that she hadn't cleaned her check outs for that day so when they came to check in yesterday they were all dirty and we didn't find out until the people got to their cabins and called us, pissed off. And of course, this was also my fault. Sometimes I hate how I have to deal with stuff just because i'm the one that answers the phone or because I'm the first face they see when they walk in the door. Kind of like when poeple get mad at the wait staff when they have a bad resturant experience. Really it's probably eveyone but the wait staff's fault but you don't see anyone else so you take it out on the wait staff. (I don't do that, obviously b/c i know how it feels. But having worked in resturants for...5 years I know people do it.)

Yesterday was way more excitement than I needed in one day.
