Dear LJ,

I must confess something that is heavy on my mind. When I took Riley to the dentist a couple weeks ago she DID do really good. BUT, she had 2 cavities. Two! We got them filled and she did fantastic at that appointment also but feel like an absolute shit parent because my four year old now has two fillings in her mouth. Yes, they are baby teeth and will fall out eventually. Yes, I made them do the white fillings so that they can't be seen because one was on the front of her lower right canine tooth. But how did this happen?!! I brush her teeth twice a day, then she does it through out the day, and she uses mouthwash and she doesn't eat/drink a lot of sugary stuff (except at her grandparents house. OMG las week she came home with a whole bag of candy! Like, the kind you buy at halloween or for pinatas. A whole fucking bag! I let her have a few pieces and when she went to bed I put aside like 5 pieces and threw the rest away.) I feel like it's all my fault b/c I'm the parent with bad teeth. Nathan has amazing teeth. Mine are junk. Soft enamel. Prone to cavities-and have the fillings to prove it!-despite proper dental care at home and with the dentist. Ugh.

Yesterday Riley helped me make dinner. This is her new favortie thing. She will get her little pot holders and oven mitt and help. She doesn't actually cook she just helps with food prep. Like yesterday she helped mix up a sauce, snap green beans, and helped with the potaotes. We were having mashed potatoes so when I was peeling them she stood next to me and put the peeled ones in the sink and then handed me another one. 3 or 4 potaotes in she said, "Mom, why are you taking their clothes of with that vegetable killer?" The what? "Vegetable killer. That (points)." Oh. Well....uhm...hmm. Well, this is a vgetable PEELer and we are taking their clothes off so we can put them in that pot right there for a nice hot bath. "Oh. ok. *giggle* They're naked!"
